It is also an advancement in technology. As the spacecraft seem to have the ability to travel light years in seconds and the ability to alter course on a dime.
Though improbable, the t makes for some on the edge of your seat reading. Making you feel as if you are there and very much part of the story.
This series follows Captain Jameson and crew through continuing running battles against overwhelming enemy forces as they try to gather small groups of Engel officers and warships who have been stranded on various outer planets and bring them to bear against the invading Zariat forces. They have to make their own luck to out-think and out-maneuver the enemy, facing one setback after another, needing and finding help among the varied races of Engel citizens in the outworld to keep them going.
These stories are well-written as a celebration of old pulp fiction, where heroes survive unbelievable battles, never run out of ammunition, can always find someone to repair any damage to their ships, and even violate some rules of physics. After all, it’s just make-believe!! Fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride!
I had purchased all four of these books and reviewed them as they were released, so I did not purchase this boxset. This review is a consolidation of those reviews. At this point, I have read and thoroughly enjoyed the first six books in the series and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Do yourself a favor and buy this boxset – it's a dandy bargain – four books for less than a buck!
Marooned - This story was a riot to read. It entertained and made me laugh at all the action, adventure, and nonstop escaping the odds. It opens with an insane amount of ships invading and our plucky crew made up of different alien types crashing landing on a remote planet. And thus starts the fight for survival from the creatures on the planet. The fights were awesome and totally unbelievable as our crew manages to survive them and fight again and again as they end up on a scavenger hunt to repair their ships. Just out right entertaining and I cannot wait to see what happens next for our crew.
Last Run - Brynn and his crew are on the run and trying to survive and stay ahead of the Zariat. This time they run into trouble on Ipli and run into some good and bad luck. It was fun watching the non-stop action as Bryn tries to figure out how to keep his ship and crew alive and out of enemy hands and still come up with a plan to defeat the Zariat. Some new friends are made and a plan hatched. Now they have to pull it off. I laughed and groaned but was entertained the whole time with the nonstop action and fighting. Now cannot wait to see what happens next and if the crew survive what comes next. They have the luck of the insane.
Forsaken - The crew of the Yellowjacket are back for another fun filled action adventure as they try to stay out of enemies hands while mounting a defense to repel them. At least that is the overall plan but things go sideways and thus I was widely entertained by the crew. The characters were a blast as usual. New friends are made too. I laughed and sighed and had my fingers crossed that this time the small but mighty crew would get a break. Just lots of fun to read.
Under Siege - Captain Brynn Jameson and his Yellowjacket crew are back for another entertaining and action filled chapter in the saga to fight the evil invaders and rescue everyone. I laughed I groaned but was wildly entertained. Enjoyed the banter, the fighting, the space battles, and everything else. Would the crew get one step closer to their goal? Enjoyed their fighting spirit and they willingness to go full tilt to win.
I received an advance copy of each book and these are my honest review - loved them all for the riot and fun reads they each are.
