Tatum is a Solo Stealer, Dewan Should've Punched Him.
Verified purchase
Anyone in the arts knows the importance of Dewan's character's final performance and how *much* a solo in that performance dictates getting competitive offers from dance companies. The Tatum character stole her solo. The story doesn't matter at that point in the film.... A non student stole a student's solo and no one blinked an eye. Particularly, a man stole a woman's solo, and no one blinked an eye. Other dancing movies with similar formulas but two female leads show the issue of solo stealing, but not this movie. Step Up is sexist at best, and at its worst, blatantly disrespectful to artistic traditions.

Teen Dream

My inner teenager and my actual teenager insists I give this 5 stars, because of the dancing, and the fact that these two married in real life... The plot is unrealistic but perfect for youth before the real world crushes their dreams lolz

Good dance, and romance, terrible plot

Interesting idea bringing two opposites, street dance and ballet, together, but there are so many holes in this movie. A non student, having trashed the studio, doing community service, was allowed to take the place if a paying student's senior dance. Can you say no way in hell? The senior guy was hurt? Ok sure but no way they would allow a non student, a criminal, dance like that. Not to mention the fact he completely changed the look, emotions and genre of her routine, completely. Sure it was flashy, artsy, and beautiful, but it goes completely against the spirit of the ballet she was originally doing and what the judges would want to see.

VERY ENTERTAINING MOVIE

I NEVER IMAGINED THIS MAN COULD DANCE SO WELL! I ENJOYED MOST OF THE MUSIC. NOT AT ALL INTO GHETTO DANCING. BUT WHEN IT IS MIXED WITH CLASSICAL I ENJOY IT VERY MUCH. I DID HATE THE HANGING PANTS I HAD TO SEE ON THE STAR THROUGH MOST OF THE MOVIE. AND THE WOMAN'S CLOTHS WERE TOO LITTLE. SO LOW CLASS AND CRUDE TO ME. BUT AT LEAST AT THE END HE WAS TOLD HE HAD TO GET SOME TIGHTS.

Great Dancing and Impressive Chemistry
Verified purchase
This review is for my daughter. She loves this movie and all of the impressive dance scenes. I actually enjoyed it as well, and I have no dancing pedigree/ability/desire whatsoever. Tatum and his lead lady actually have some chemistry. I thought love chemistry was dead in movies after suffering through some of those old Spider-man movies with Peter and Mary Jane, but I was wrong.

Channing Tatum is fabulous
Verified purchase
Channing Tatum makes his debut as a kid on the verge of a jail sentence who finds himself in a dance school and realizes dancing comes natural and to work to make it a career is a true ambition. He's a great dancer and the story of the troubled kid finding dance is OK... though getting old... watch it if you love dance. Channing Tatum is fabulous...

Fantastic Movie

Like most other 16 year old girls I knew, I watched this all the time when it came out. Channing Tatum was hot even before he became magic mike and Jenna Dewan was great. So 11 years later, I ordered this to reminisce. And watch it in HD on 65" rather than on my 24" box TV. This is by far the best Step Up movie. I think they could have just had this one and not made the others. Order it. You know you want to.

This is a story about how, if given a chance, one decision can turn a life around. I sure do not understand the bad reviews and their comments. This world needs a lot more compassion and kindness. Sadly, picking apart this movie explains a lot....
