Every woman can relate to this in one way or the other! If you have children, single parent or woman in general this movie keeps you wondering what’s going on next - & how 2 different women try to be “parents to the same children” . Whether you have children or not quite (yet), or married someone who does, or you are the woman whose own children spend time with your ex with another woman! If You Know Someone who is going through Breast Cancer, Survived Breast Cancer Or even Someone that you Lost or going while fighting with Breast Cancer.
This movie tugs at your “heart & all people you love/loved”. It has you feel whether you went through this with someone you love or you have 20 years ago- it touches you !

Good movie...well done by Susan Saradon & Julia Roberts.

I enjoy this movie and this is about the 4th time I've seen it and enjoyed it just as well this time. I was quite taken by the young woman who played Susan's daughter. Besides Susan and Julia's complex issues, it is also a coming of age for the daughter and Julia's attempts at easing that transition, conflict with mama bear's protective measures and angst at seeing her daughter being caught up in the new woman in her ex-husband's life. Trying to make lasting memories for her children and the end of life fears and sorrows, make this a great movie.

Unexpected Responsibilities and Blessings...

Isabel (Julia Roberts) and Jackie (Susan Sarandon) have nothing in common.

Or so they think. But despite the obvious differences between them - Isabel is a Manhattan fashion photographer and Jackie is a stay-at-home mom to two kids - there is a bond growing between them.

For Luke, (Ed Harris), the children's father, is about to marry Isabel - despite his children's avowed dislike for the woman - and something is happening to Jackie that will radically alter all of their lives.

[[ASIN:0767821769 Stepmom]] is a movie that I saw many years ago - first in the theater and later on VHS - and when I ordered this DVD, I knew that I would enjoy watching it over and over for many years to come.

The poignancy of this story can touch anyone out there who has ever experienced the family complications conveyed in this movie; it can deeply affect everyone who has ever lived through anything like the joy and sorrow felt by the characters.

A wonderful drama about life and the unexpected moments that linger in our memories.

Not sure why this is in the genre "Comedy"
Verified purchase
This is a decent movie. There are some parts that make me eye-roll hard, but nonetheless enjoyable to watch. Not one I would particularly want to watch over and over again, but it was okay the one time. This really doesn't belong in the comedy genre, it's more of a drama with like 2 jokes and a lot of sad stuff. I did appreciate the very strong female presence in the movie and even though Susan Sarandon's character was in my opinion extremely difficult to like, she acted it well as she always does.

Surprise release on blu-ray!

How could I have missed this blu-ray release of one of my favourites?! I always look for surprise release treasures on blu-ray and found this amongst them. An excellent transfer, with a touching tale of real life best friends Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon, who had been looking for a project with strong female roles to take on together for a long time. And they found it!

I didn't like the word Step in the movie. No one can take a mother's place. So a new spouse is just that. I love Movies though, with JR and SS.
