This was a terrible accident and I'm not minimizing it. I just think that in writing, the way the entire experience was expressed is overdramatized. A lot of the details in the book are shallow and unnecessary. I found myself rolling my eyes rather than being caught up in the story. Her father "wailing" before he even knew how serious her injuries were, and then "curling up into the fetal position" (stated several times) afterwards just came across as strange to me. I'm not saying that when your adult child is injured that you shouldn't be upset, but the way it was written came across as over the top.
I believe that waiting a little longer to write the book and sharing her experiences (rather than her past) would have provided greater insight to others who may also be coping with such a disability, as well as making it a more honest and interesting read overall.
