Ever since the copper mine closed, the West Texas desert hellholes of Inferno and Bordertown have been slowly dying. Snake River isn’t the only thing that divides them. Racism, gang wars, and anti-Mexican sentiment have turned the sun-scorched flatlands into a powder keg. If anything can unite them for now, at least in awe and wonder, it’s the UFO that comes soaring out of the clouds like a flaming locomotive.
In the wake of the crash, a young alien named Daufin has arrived, too. A fugitive who has taken the form of a human, she knows the terror that awaits the inhabitants of this planet—because it is looking for her.
When Stinger, the monstrous alien bounty hunter, arrives, it’s with a destructive fury and a devious plan to find Daufin—by entombing the residents in an impenetrable and inescapable dome. A relentless killing machine, Stinger has an infinite capacity for death and destruction. And over the next twenty-four hours, this town is going to bleed and burn. Now, the few remaining survivors must come together to protect Daufin, themselves, and the world beyond from total annihilation.
From the New York Times–bestselling and Bram Stoker Award–winning author of Swan Song, Stinger was called “one of the best suspense novels of recent years” by the Science Fiction Chronicle.

This was the first Robert R. McCammon novel I read and damn it's one hell of a ride.
Plot
Set in a fictional town that's between Texas and Mexico an small yet quite place called Inferno and it's a dying town with no business booming, all the residents are moving with it's only high school shutting down which can't even get it's students to learn so the teachers don't care at all. Their are two gangs that live in Inferno which is the only crime that keeps the town's only sheriff work as Inferno main source of income was mining but it has been shut down after a nasty accident happed years ago. Cody Lockett an teenager living with his mean father has had enough and plans to finish his last year in high school and leave Inferno. However on the day he goes to leave trouble comes from outer space. Two aliens reach the small town of Inferno. An being named Daufin which uses the body of an little girl named Stevie to hid it's pod from an shape shifting bounty hunter alien known as Stinger which doesn't care who gets in it's way and enjoys killing people which he dubs humans as "Bugs"
Cody along with the residents of Inferno band together to fight against Stinger and his mutated creatures which he turned people and animals into whatever can kill them. And help Daufin return to it's home world so it can free Daufin's people from The House Of Fist an high up alien group that takes over other worlds and uses their most deadest weapons against them. If they fail Earth will be it's next target.
It felt good reading this book again however as I remembered more of Stinger I felt it dragged on at times as I had to read side characters which had little or no part in the story just adding more scenes to the start and middle of the novel however by the end of it the story follows the main group of characters. Robert is great with detail along with rich characters to like and the whole setting of Inferno just makes it even better.
