It’s hard to imagine loving a book that’s not in my “preferred genre” as much as I can honestly say I loved this one!!
Honestly though, there has not yet been a book that Kelley Armstrong has written that I have not loved, Ive just never fallen IN love with the characters quite so much.
This story is a Time Slip novel. The main character, Bronwyn, grows up spending her summers at her aunt and uncle’s manor house. A place where she finds herself a wonderful playmate named William, who is also from 200 years in the past. We read snippets of Bronwyn growing up with her friend, visiting at three, then five, and again at fifteen and it’s so endearing. This house has everything, including secret passageways reminiscent of Nancy Drew novels I grew up with!
Unfortunately, as with most mystery novels, something happens in her fifteenth year that causes Bronwyn to not return to the manor until her aunt dies and bequeaths it to her. Her first steps into the manor are awkward, filled with memories both fond and not, but when the sun goes down the ghosts come out to play. Locking herself in her childhood bedroom to escape a ghost Bronwyn finds herself back in time 200 years again...and not entirely welcome.
Most of the book centers around William and Bronwyn learning about the 20+ years they’ve been away from each other. They speak of the future and all the obstacles facing them by living in two separate time periods, and also of the VERY real threat of resentment if either should have to choose a time not their own, and they both agree neither should give up their life for the other. Yet each time Bronwyn returns to her time she is plagued with ghosts and the only way to rid herself of them is to solve the mystery of their deaths...all of them.
Will solving the deaths lead her back to William’s arms or close the slip and separate them completely forever? Time can only tell

I have read many of Kelley Armstrong’s books and was so excited about this one. I loved the Cainesville series, so I was thrilled to read another book by her. It sounded like it was the exact type of book I wanted to read. I was a little disappointed as the story was kind of basic and lacked character development. I liked Bronwyn, but everyone else was pretty flat. William was a little blah as a character and there was a lot of room for him to be developed. The storyline was okay-I just didn’t feel like it lured me in and made me want to keep reading. I only finished it because I was committed to finishing it, even after I was about over it. This is not a knock on the author; I have read enough of her books to know she is a great writer and I appreciate her stories. I just didn’t love this one.

I'm a huge fan of this author's Cainsville and Rockton series and have read and greatly enjoyed most of her other work as well. This book isn't like anything of hers I've read before, which is not a criticism at all, just an acknowledgment that despite having read much of Armstrong's output, she still surprised me.

This is a sweet, spooky, occasionally startling time travel mystery novel that managed to be fully immersive. I knocked one star off for an unresolved paradox, but reluctantly. This was exactly the sort of light but emotionally engaging and well written novel I needed today.

A time-slip mystery. First in the series.
Bronwyn has inherited an old house she remembers having a ghost when she visited as a young girl. They were friends and playmates. Now that she has returned to Thorne Manor she finds she still has the ability to slip through time and interact with William in his time. They are the same age and resume their friendship which turns into more.
More than one ghost inhabits Thorne Manor and not all are friendly. When a mysterious disappearance becomes the village legend with William as the villain, Bronwyn starts to listen closer to the ghosts that continue to vie for her attention.

Tense until the very end. Is he the hero or a victim?
Gripping and thrilling. With a romance between the centuries that you can’t help be sad about the span of time and ultimate ending.
Reminded me a bit of the old movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve.

I alternated between the ebook and audiobook. The audio is narrated by Samantha Brentmoor who I loved for her tone, emotional portrayal and timing.

I've not read this author before but it came with excellent reviews (very few 1 and 2 stars) and the genre is time-slip. So I thought I was settling down to a very good read. The book started off well and then it seemed to really drag until it got to the end where it picked up, though the tie-up was all rather convoluted. I don't think I warmed to any of the characters particularly, except for Freya who was likable. At times I found the first-person writing rather stilted with short, sharp sentences that were particularly jarring for the reader. Another annoyance was the American spelling throughout. If a book is set in America, then I have no problem with American spelling, but when it is set in England, it must be English spelling. To some, perhaps that doesn't bother them, but for me, I am a stickler for the English language. Additionally, there was a lengthy sex scene that did nothing for the storyline and was a little cringe-worthy. Would I read anything else by this author? Probably not, but congratulations to her for this very well-received book.

I bought the written and audio version of this book. The book may be good but the English Yorkshire accents in the audio version are so dreadful that I can't get passed it. One of the reviews I read before buying said how brilliantly the Yorkshire accent was portrayed in the book. If this is true, I cannot believe the author approved the audio version as the accents via between Scottish, Irish and some sort of weird in between dialect. Dreadful.

I just devoured A Stitch in Time in a day. I absolutely adored it! Having lived in Derbyshire (near to Yorkshire) for most of my life, I have learnt to appreciate brooding handsome country men of literature (thanks Mr Darcy) and this book didn’t disappoint. The story was so compelling and the characters were so well rounded - it’s such a shame this is not going to be a full series, but I can’t wait for the companion novel and short story. Also really appreciated the detailed Yorkshire accent - it was spot on! This book had it all romance, mystery, fantasy and caught my attention from the first page. Overall, another fantastic book from Kelley Armstrong.

I enjoyed this book. As expected from this author it is well written and engaging and a bit scary at times! There was a bit in the middle when I thought I'd solved the mystery which would have been disappointing but I was wrong! There's 2 minor reasons why I'm not giving this book 5 stars. I found William a bit 1 dimensional as a character and, without giving any spoilers, I didn't think there was a 'plausible' explanation for the time travel resolution at the end, I felt it was just made to fit the desired ending. Otherwise this was an excellent book that I would highly recommend.

I didnt expect to like this book, Victorian romance is not really my thing but I tried it because I like to read everything by my preferred authors. It was everything I've come to expect from Kelley Armstrong, a believable female lead full of little touches that flesh out the character into a real personality, plus a storyline that although not actually going to happen is close enough to a practical what if that im genuinely happy for the characters in the end. In the end end though, isn't a little escapism what we are all looking for?
