This book has made a completely worthless human of me today as I have parked my rear on the recliner end of a sofa and done nothing but read and eat since I woke up this morning. In the midst of this pandemic, I needed an escape, and Stone Cross provided it. I finished Open Carry yesterday, having picked it up because I enjoyed Cameron’s latest Clancy novel Code of Honor so much, and I rolled right into the second in the Arliss Cutter series today. It was even better than the first. Cameron did his usual great job of taking me to unusual locales and making me feel like I was there. Not only does he do this with beautiful descriptions of the terrain but also by providing a deep look into the culture of an area. Too, he fleshed out characters I had already grown to love in the first novel and provided background that made me love them more. These characters are not for the faint of heart, though, but for people who realize the world isn’t all rainbows, sunshine, and clear cut answers, and I like that. Now I’ll sit back and anxiously anticipate the next in the series...

I enjoy reading and now with this quarantine, I am definitely reading more. I was surfing Amazon and came across Stone Cross. I do enjoy police procedural thrillers. My background is 30 yrs in law enforcement.
Arliss Cutter is a U.S. Marshal, working out of Alaska.
This book paints a clear picture on how dangerous and difficult living in Alaska can be. It also goes into grate detail how difficult it can be for a law enforcement officer assigned at Alaska.
This book is dark, gritty, violent, and not for the faint of heart. It also has an intense plot, interesting characters, and a nail biting ending.
Stone Cross is the second book in the Arliss Cutter series and in my case, it can be read as a standalone. I will be reading the first book next.

I have now read all of Marc Cameron's books , and Stone Cross is just one more example of how truly talented this author is. I absolutely love how he presents his characters and story line in such a way that I not only feel as though I personally know everyone, I feel as though MARC Cameron is one narrating the story. I spent two weeks at Eielson Air Force in Fairbanks Alaska from November 20 to December 5 1968 while on temporary duty in the Air Force. The entire time , the temperature was minus 60 degrees below zero, with absolutely no wind. I'm sure the few days they have of Summer are beautiful, but thoughts of living there year round are frightening. Marc Cameron's description of Alaska and Alaskan Natives makes me ,now, want to live there. Only a GREAT author could do that. Bottom line----- this book will have you on the edge of your seat and reading until you pass out asleep. Loved it!

Very interesting characters, each of them clearly defined and described in a vibrant way. The writing was excellent, the plot was believable, exciting and easy to read. It was intense but in a good way. Alaska is not for the faint of heart and neither is this book. The author does an excellent job of painting the canvas for the story. This would make an incredible movie if it stayed true to the book! Besides all the previous accolades, I really loved the strong female characters portrayed in the story. Of course Arliss is kick ass, but what about the strong, kick ass women in the story! Great book, can't wait to go back and catch the first one.

I'm completely blown away by the writing, historical journey into the Eskimo women and men of Alaska. I felt not only was this a book of intrigue chasing down cold blooded killers, but the best lesson in the Eskimo culture I've received since moving to the United States of America from Australia. I found myself not only drawn into the intrigue of the book, but learning the likeness in many ways of not only the Eskimo and Maori cultures, but having lived and taught and worked summer programs with the Navajo in Southeastern Utah, for 19 years, I felt such a kinship with the forgotten cultures in many instances of these amazing people. Definitely top of my read list but it is not, in some instances, for the faint of heart. A huge 5* to Marc Cameron for his best work yet! And I've read every book he has penned.

Book Review - I'm usually a big fan of military/spy novels as a rule, but this crime novel - Stone Cross - set in bush Alaska is rich, suspenseful and satisfying...a real gem from one of my top five favorite authors, Marc Cameron! I enjoyed the well-developed characters, Alaskan bush culture and the natural fabric of the storyline and all the subplots woven in. Not the least bit predictable, the story rolls along on its own path, much like the wilderness where it unfolds. The lead women in this book were amazing and so were the dogs! Their portrayal in this story were every bit as tough as the Alaskan bush! Marc did a fantastic job of informing the reader about rural Alaskan culture while providing a great manhunt story. His years as a U.S. Marshal authenticated the story. The story itself is really quite good and Marc’s knowledge about Alaskan village life was an added bonus. Cameron did a masterful job crafting this book. I was hooked from the beginning and can’t wait for the next one! Again, plenty of drama, suspense, action, and fascinating Alaskan culture come together in a book with multiple story lines that keeps you eager to read the next chapter. The main character, U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter is one of my new favorites. He is a rugged, rough and tough protagonist. Thanks, Marc Cameron. Can’t wait for the next Arliss Cutter book in this series.

Zu viele Nebenschauplätze und Handlungsstränge, die halbherzig und ohne Tiefe erzählt werden, dazu einen eher hilflosen Cutter, der sich die E... ,mal wieder, in einem Sturm und dropping temperatures abfriert, in einen eisigen Fluss fällt, nur um am Ende in einem lahmen shoot out, den man nicht als shoot out bezeichnen kann, zwei captured Leute zu retten.
Lahme und sehr sparsame langweilige Dialoge, ohne Esprit und Humor und Raffinesse, die keine Bindung zwischen dem Leser, also mir, Cutter und der Geschichte aufkommen ließ. Sie verlief sich in Eis und Schnee, im Nebel und wollener Underwear.
No way auch, dass ein former Army Ranger einer ihm wildfremden Frau am Telephon classified war stories über seinen Freund Cutter erzählt hätte. No no way.
Grundsätzlich könnte man mit ein wenig mehr schriftstellerischen Enthusiasmus aus der Figur eines Arliss Cutter sehr sehr sehr viel mehr herausholen, ihn sozusagen aus dem Eis holen und ihm Leben einhauchen, auch ohne Grumpys Rules, die eher störend und konstruiert, wie sein "Medizinbeutel", wirken und völlig überflüssig für die Characterisierung eines 42-jährigen US Marshals sind.
Also wer keine Action mag, dafür etwas über die Gesellschaft, das Living, die Natur und den Natives in Alaska lernen möchte, sich an trostlosen Dialogen nicht stört und einen Reiseführer für den nächsten Urlaub braucht, ist mit diesem Buch gut bedient. Alle andern eher nicht.
