BOOK ONE IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING HARBINGER SERIES
Meet Trinity Marrow, a girl with an explosive secret whose hiding place has just been discovered…
Eighteen-year-old Trinity may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her gift is the reason she’s been in hiding for years in a compound guarded by Wardens—shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her to enhance their powers.
When Wardens from another clan arrive with reports that something is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to trust Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

I received an ARC for an honest review.
With that being said, you'd think older teens and young adults expect more in-depth writng however, like Hunger Games quality (as just one example) not the simplistic silly story line and lackluster writing that went on here. The only reason I even downloaded this was because of all the reviews.
I have grandkids and I loved The Hunger Games so that just goes to show you how excellent some writers can be and how others are just not.
Yes. Sometimes I'm wrong and books end up seriously lacking like this one.
The beginning starts out very strange so you have no idea what is going on. In other words, it does not draw you in. You have to force yourself to read further.
I mean why do I care some teen is getting handsy with a strange girl who can boot him out a window? I don't. The author hasn't done anything to make me care.
The trueborn aspect was a good idea...just not executed well.
It could have been so much more.
Roth and the other demons were much more exciting than the main character or Clay & the others back home. Were it me, I would have had them meet up Trinity a lot sooner. This writer spent way too much time in the compound where she lived.
In my opinion, that was all wasted story line and boring. I also didn't care about Peanut. His presense and addition to this story didn't add anything positive. His 80's slang just made me roll my eyes. Had Peanut had a roaring sense of humor, it would have been much much better but he was a very dull character and added nothing. He was simply filler.
Being able to see ghosts and spirits was another good idea, just executed poorly. So much more could have been done with it.
With that being said, I finished it just to say that I did.
The character developement just wasn't there. Without spoilers, the one who ended up being a big bad in the end, just didn't work.
A writer...at least a good one would have shown you signs throughout the story. Not an abrupt change in character at the end.
This was like bam! Here's your bad guy. Surprise!
It takes a really good writer to surprise the reader. I was like "Uh, excuse me?" Lol
Yeah, that didn't work at all.
I mean, a lot of people (kids I guess) liked this. Hooray for them.
There are a lot better books out there by much better writers.
Wasn't the worst book but I'll forget about this by tomorrow.

Storm and Fury is about Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she's been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens--gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they'll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.
When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity's safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she's ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again--but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity's secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she'll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed...
I had read the Dark Elements series and loved it, I loved Layla, Roth and Zayne, but I'm going to say something that people won't agree with...I loved this story a hell of a lot more than the Dark elements.
*throws hands over face*
From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down, I had to know what was going to happen, I loved Trinity and I love Zayne, and them two together are awesome, and I can not wait to find out what will happen between them again.
I can't wait for the next one, please be June !!!
Happy reading :)

This was an easy read, I wasn't bored but not a stand out plot. It had a good twist at the end that I didn't see coming ( I really underestimated the author after the DE series, didnt I? Sorry!!).
Character-wise I really liked Trinity, she's impulsive, slightly selfish but an overall likeable character and much more interesting that Layla was, and Zayne has improved.
One of the characters has a medical condition I haven't seen in a book before which was really interesting to learn about (although it's not properly explained until very late in the book). Even though the author herself has this condition, the things the character did seemed a little ridiculous at times (able to hand to hand fighting but would then trip over pavements), but it is a fantasy novel I guess (may have sat better with me if her powers helped compensate rather than just instinct and practice), still I love to see diversity and more awareness of medical conditions!
Fyi-It does reveal quite a few spoilers for the dark elements series so you may want to read them first.

Storm & Fury is set in the same world as JLA's Dark Element series, of which this series is the spin-off. With that in mind, I recommend you begin with the Dark Element series before this in order to fully understand some of the character back-stories as well as their relationships to one another. I am sure it can be read as a stand-alone series but truth be told, I read this book first and then went to the Dark Elements series as I realised they were connected. Reading the Dark Elements series will give you a bigger insight into the history of some of the characters as well as the world these two series are set in.
This series focuses on Zayne following the events at the end of the Dark Elements series, as well as Trinity, someone who has been hidden away for many years and has special abilities. As such, this book gave me the impression that it is setting the scene for the rest in the series and that bigger and more dramatic events are on the horizon! Given this, you need to settle in for the long haul as you will have plenty of questions at the end (in a good way!).
The characters themselves are lovely - after reading Zayne's story in the Dark Elements, I am glad he is getting his own story and HEA (eventually!) as I really feel he deserves it, even if I wasn't sold on his character until reading this series! Zayne. I was left with a lot of questions in relation to Zayne following the Dark Elements series, and I am glad to have had some of the answers to these in this book. Regarding Trinity, she's impulsive, kick-ass and a little selfish yet still a very likeable character as she is a real character with real concerns and reactions and one you can't help but respect. Trinity has a medical condition that affects her eye-sight, but she doesn't let this define her (and isn't afraid to let Zayne and anyone else know this!). I love the inclusivity of this book and how it raises awareness of a medical condition not many would be aware of! This is definitely a slow-burn romance and I am excited to see their relationship and friendship blossom throughout the series.
I really enjoyed the start of this series, as well as the fact I was reintroduced to the characters from the Dark Elements series again and continue their stories. You can never go wrong with a JLA book, and this is no exception!
