Our family loves these!

This series is just stellar. Our daughter will be 3 this October, and she has already been enraptured by this series since we got them for her last Christmas. The illustrations and music are rich enough that it holds her interest even though she doesn't yet understand all the words. She can pick out the main characters and use simple words to describe the basic emotions of each scene.
These books are so helpful in instilling love for classical music, and most importantly a deep understanding of musicality. My wife and I are music teachers and this is a chief goal in parenting our daughter. We love how these books help her learn and discover through art and music; and we could scarcely be happier at having discovered this great resource for our family and music studio!
We excitedly preordered the newest book and enthusiastically hope the author and illustrator continue this superb series to include more of the wonderful stories, imagery, and wonder to be found within the classical repertoire!

These books are damagingly loud

We have all the Story Orchestra books and love them, except that (1) the buttons are very hard to push, especially for little fingers, and (2) the speaker volume is absurdly loud. Our children were scared and complained of the volume, so we had to tape a thick layer of cardboard over the speakers. I used a decibel meter and measured a reliable 85-95 decibels, which is about the same as an average lawn mower, shouting, and heavy traffic. Sounds over 89dB are considered harmful to hearing for adults, and even more so for children.

The funny thing with the discrepancy in reviews on this subject is that adults can’t objectively judge volume level. Those that say it isn’t loud likely have hearing loss - I know that I’m always the first adult in a group to complain that something is too loud. Children have more sensitive hearing just because it hasn’t been damaged yet, which leads me to this question: are these books intended for children or for older adults? If the former, the volume is unacceptably loud.

My 16 month daughter and I love this Swan Lake book (we also have the Four Seasons). I'm a musician and want to introduce real music to my daughter, vs. the tinny computerized versions of all the other toys. She loves finding and pressing the buttons and the pictures are beautiful. The Swan Lake story is mostly there for when she's old enough to understand (or even read it herself). This series is great for parents and kids who want picture books with real music.

This is our fourth “The Story Orchestra” book. My 7 year old loves the illustrations, the music, and the story. I have introduced her to classical music through these books. It has made her more curious and she loves to learn about the composer at the end of the story. I especially love how the book describes the music and what to listen for. These are beautiful books to display.
