This story falls into a familiar pattern. There's an h in trouble, and an H has to save her. Of course, all that happens while the h/H have a pile of seriously smokin sex and fall in love. The plot is also pretty standard, but in this case, it ran quite thin. I found myself skipping ahead to avoid another multi-page-long conversation around who might be involved in the dirty corporate deeds. Disappointingly, there was a psychotic, narcissistic women running the Bad Corporation. I say disappointing because this is a very tired trope in the Taggart universe (see Hope McDonald, who i would have virtually killed myself if they hadn't FINALLY finished her off).
Even worse, this story set up Yet Another Psychotic Woman, who looks like she'll be woven into multiple storylines. Again, this is a very overused character, and I beg you, Lexi Blake, to rethink this. I nearly stopped reading this series over the endlessly unkillable Hope McDonald. If another Psychotic Woman runs the show, you can count me out as a future reader.
One last issue, hence the 3 stars--the h. Almost 3/4 of the way through, she still seemed unable to grasp that people might not be who they say they are. Wha? She got on my last nerve with her lack of sufficient savvy to not accept that people lie like smelly dogs. This was after she was presented with numerous blatant examples of just such evidence. This made her otherwise smart character appear sorely lacking for a Taggart female role. She was a disappointment. Most female characters in this universe are smart, strong, funny, and self-aware. Oh they aren't perfect, and they do evolve, which is the beauty of reading them. But this h, not so much.
I pre-ordered the next book, as Lexi Blake is now the only author I'll take that leap with now. Here's to hoping the next book is better.
Noelle is extremely intelligent, so much so that she is working at a lucrative scientific that seems to have something shady going on behind the scenes. Noelle and Hutche get off on the wrong food, but both cannot deny they have a chemistry that can’t be faked, or ignored! Noelle is not only getting assistance from the MT crew for her dangerous situation at work, she is also going to be joining their D/S training class. She is ready to explore a side of herself she wasn’t sure was really there. As she and Hutch become closer and more entangled in one another, they both begin to discover that they could be the perfect match...though Noelle needs a bit more convincing than Hutch.
We also get our introduction to Kyle Hawthorne, son of Grace and stepson of Sean Taggert. He is dark, broody, and insanely good looking, but genus hiding something, and Hutch begins the path of discovering exactly what it is, as they work together to help Noelle. Kyle’s story arc will confine for awhile and I for one cannot wait to see how it revolves!
The tidbits of what is to come as this “time jump” continues are exciting for those who have follow The MT crew from the beginning! The next generation are all young adults or teens! They will be getting their own stories soon enough!
As expected, Ms Blake gives us an amazing cast of characters, combining new with old. The glimpse at these older, and even more complicated, characters we have previously known is done seamlessly and gives readers what we crave, to know “what happens next!” I look forward to continuing into this next generation of Masters and Mercenaries stories with many more books full of suspense, action, passion, love and of course, sarcasm!
And if you are listening Ryan West is an amazing narrator who brings the world of McKay-Taggart to life.
Noelle LaVigne has been through some extreme tragedy in her life and now she is on a new path with a new job in a new city. Her new job proves to be challenging when a co-worker dies and she suspects that it was murder. Her father will call in a favor from Ian Taggart to look after his daughter. Meeting Hutch will set off all kinds of buttons for her. There are things that Noelle wants to experience at Club Sanctum and Hutch will end up helping her experience those things. She also helps Hutch to find what he has been missing.
Things become dangerous when bullets start flying and their futures are on the line. They will need to trust each other in order to survive.
There will be plenty of entertainment from Ian Taggart and the Sanctum cohorts!

This is book 1 of a new series, Masters and Mercenaries, Reloaded, however, it could well be book 22? (I may have miscounted) of the original series.
The series has moved forward a few years from where the original M&T started, so we’re seeing Ian Taggart in his 50’s with teenage kids (hilarious!) Alex, Eve, The Taggart’s and all the characters we’ve fallen in love with over the years are still active, working hard and playing harder, but in this series we are being introduced to a younger generation, we’ve seen quite a few appear in previous books, especially our Hero of Submission Impossible Greg ‘Hutch’ Hutchins.
This is a fantastic romantic suspense story with elements of BDSM, the connection between Hutch and Noelle is beautiful to see develop throughout the book, what they’ve both been through so far in their lives makes them vulnerable at times (Good Lord! Ian as a father figure to Hutch gave me all the feels!)
The storyline reminded me of the earlier books within the original series, the suspense kept me on the edge, some secondary characters have storylines developing (I’m already attached to Kyle and MaeBe!!😍 I’ve got to trust the author to look after them in-between books 😁)
The sarcasm we’ve come to love and adore is on point (Ian is usually somewhere in or around those scenes lol) Charlie is back being a matchmaker and also taking Ian to Church Holy Moly! 🥰😍🔥 and Adam Miles is being pranked ahhhh it’s just like the good old days ❤️😍 I LOVED IT!!!
Highly Recommended if you adore protective alpha heroes with hearts of gold, strong heroines who can make their men fall hard, sensual, hot romance, edge of seat suspense and plenty of laugh out loud moments. Perfect👌🏼
