Though there have been numerous complaints on the length of the story, I thought it was just right. While some of the subjects could have been dragged out more, it was a fun romp of a story. Sydney is a 5 star chef who is on the run from her uncle who wants her inheritance. He’s willing to go to any length to get it. She ends up getting lost on her way to her new job, (a common ocurance) and happens to see the goings on at a BDSM club.
She meets up with her boss, who ends up getting her out of trouble more often than not, getting her and her bottom into hot water.
BJ’s foray into cowboy romance has started off with a bang! And I’m excited to read about the rest of the ranch’s hot doms!
I enjoy the story in itself. And I loved Sydney as a character. She was spunky with good sense of humor and a great cook. I loved her interaction with all the ranch helpers
This book is on the short side and for me there were to many storylines for this length. It felt rushed and I missed details and background into the characters, the ranch and the club.
What I liked: The author gave the heroine something to think about besides the hunky cowboy. Best of all Sydney had no sense of direction and when her GPS wasn't working it was hard telling where she would wonder off to. That put her into some interesting and humorous situations. I like Caden's character ignoring Sydney's ploys to interest him in her. Almost like one would swat and errant puppy with a newspaper.
With the sex club, her trying to seduce Caden, and tryig to hide from anyone and everyone, and then hoping to be found when she gets lost, there manages to be a story told.
What I didn't like: The characters were not well filled out. The so called mystery plot was lame. Sydney had to be very immature to think that one small family drama was going to do her grandmother in. Yet the writer chose to make the reader think it was all connected to some deep underworld dealings. It was the only area in which Sydney reverts to childish thinking. She really didn't have anything to worry about. Most often her thoughts were concise and well thought out. That part of it was a flop!!
Sex: elements of BDSM but not hard core. Some explicit sex scenes, but not on every page leaving room for a story.
If you want a fast fun read that isn't insta love by both parties, this story will fit. Will it be one to keep or read over and over? No.
When her Uncle Mike accosts Sydney Greenbrier, she knows she has to do something. But she doesn’t want to hurt her grandmother about her baby boy, so instead, she flees town, finds a job for a cook on a ranch, applies and is hired. Traveling two days away to work until she can come up with a plan.
Rancher and BDSM club owner, Caden, knows that if he doesn’t get a cook soon, he is going to have a riot on his hands and might lose valuable ranch hands. Getting a reply from Sydney is a godsend—tasting her cooking, and seeing how happy his men are a wise move.
The plot will have Sydney getting lost finding the Dunbar ranch and instead, seeing the light on a barn, she peers inside a window and WOW at what she sees, a private club, rightly named, The Barn, with half-naked women and alpha women. She can’t look away, and she will be caught, but none other than Caden.
The story is full of mystery, suspense, danger, a cook who has no sense of direction, a man who is fighting an attraction and then dealing with issues on the ranch. Sydney won’t open up and tell him what is going on, but Caden and even Sheriff Grayson know something is bothering her. What will happen to the Dunbar ranch if she stays? Her Uncle Mike has tracked her down, and threats are made, where will Sydney go to keep others safe?
I love the chemistry between Caden and Sydney, he is stubborn, but when he gives in and takes control, he knows just how to take care of Sydney and rock her world. What will it take for her to trust him completely with her story? Will she need to leave just as she finally finds happiness? Their story is full of erotic scenes, and the sex scenes between Caden and Sydney are explosive—and there might be some surprises too. I can’t wait for more stories in this series.
