I liked this book more than I thought I would! Honestly, I was out off by the author's name, which I find vulgar rather than sexy. However, she writes with a lot more creativity than she comes up with pen names. This story is suspenseful, sexy, and sweet in turns. I have already checked into the rest of the books in this series since I read this one, and they seem like they would be good too, so I plan on reading them as well. I am obviously reading the series out of order, so you can do that and not be lost, the book certainly can be a stand alone. There is a definite link of characters and stories, but just enough to encourage you to read the others, not leave you feeling like you are missing a critical part of the narrative. The only reason this got 4 stars rather than 5 was because the heroine was a little immature. Enough so that it annoyed me occasionally. And I was definitely annoyed by all of the characters avoidance of sharing that they wanted more. How hard is it to just say, 'Hey, I'm enjoying spending time with you. I'm open to exploring where this relationship might go if you are.' Or even, 'Hey, I've really enjoyed our time together, I wish we had longer to see where this might go. Do you think you might want to come back sometime?' Oh, and the guys should definitely have told her what happened at their last protection duty gig, especially when they knew she was struggling to understand why she should follow some rules, and to explain why they got so upset when she broke those rules. But, I'm not one of those readers who loves angst in a story. A little goes a long way.
As far as how much I think This book is worth, I would pay up to $4 but more than that would be a bit much. I might spend a dollar more than that, but I would hesitate.,This book definitely earns its 4 stars, but falls juuusst short of five.

What a great addition to a new series, Cowboy Doms. There are several authors that as soon as I see a new book by them, I can’t wait to read, and Ms. BJ Wane is one of those authors. She has a way of spinning a tale, with a great cast of characters, and wonderful dialog and interaction. Her women are strong, feisty, and her men are dominant alphas, making for a perfect combination.

The story is an emotional roller-coaster ride, one with mystery, suspense, danger, secrets, angst, and also healing and second chances. For retired FBI agents, it is the call to once again protect a woman, Kelsey Hammond, but while Greg Young capitulates to the McAllisters wishes, Devin Fisher doesn’t want anything to do with her. After their final case where the witness they were protecting is killed, and they are both wounded, Devin isn’t willing to risk it again, he still suffers nightmares from their failure. He will be very vocal about it, and when Kelsey arrives in Montana, she knows he doesn’t want her there.

The story will include Kelsey convincing her protectors that she has some submissive experience with BDSM, which is not true and causes issues when they allow her to go with them to The Barn, a local BDSM club.

“She was tired of people telling her what to do, of controlling her life even if they said it’s for her own good and safety. Remembering his disconcerting perceptiveness, Kelsey reined in the urge to argue, and instead put on her sweet, eager to comply face.”

The more time she spends at the Wild Horse Dude Ranch, around Devin and Greg, along with two long term guest, Otis, and Silas, and ranch employees Tom, Mary, and Less, she becomes a part of the gang. Devin and Greg’s job is to keep her hidden and safe while the McAllisters and the FBI investigation as to who is after her—while keeping it all from Kelsey. When she is nearly injured, and it appears not to be a freak accident, it will put them on high alert, enough to change the last week of the incoming guest for the season. Have all the things that happened to Kelsey when she was younger been warnings, and why doesn’t she know the truth?

The plot includes the danger of someone sent to attack Kelsey, first in Philadelphia while she is working on the accounting at the BDSM club, and now it seems as if they have found her in Montana. Who is after her, and why? Will Devin and Greg be able to keep her safe? When it is all over, Kelsey needs to return to her life and home in Philadelphia, but will she find peace or be miserable? Was the offer by her cowboys just words, or is it more?

The story will include scenes witnessed inside the two BDSM clubs, Dominion in Philadelphia, and The Barn in Montana. It will also have explicit sex scenes between Kelsey with Greg and Devin, along with several discipline scenes. The chemistry between the characters sizzles off the pages. The moral is truth and honesty are critical in any relationship or friendship, and within the BDSM world, it is critical—a lesson that Kelsey will learn at the hands of her two cowboy doms.

This book was well written in terms of plot and mechanics, but the characters were a little problematic. The two Hs have issues because a woman they were protecting was killed under their watch. They don’t ever want to protect someone again. The h has a lifetime of issues stemming from feeling unwanted and unloved growing up. When she is sent to the two Hs because she needs protection, neither of them make her feel welcome and one makes it quite clear he doesn’t want her there at all. He can see the hurt in her eyes when he says things to that effect, but it never stops him. And she continues to put herself out there. The issue is never fully dealt with and he never properly expresses regret or remorse for hurting her repeatedly. I wish that issue has been addressed.

I read the other books in this series, and genuinely liked the characters. It was nice that the author included a few short blurbs about them.

This story was about 2 friends, former FBI agents who run a ranch together and in their spare time, share submissives together. Enter Kelsey, an almost 30yr old woman needing protection from a possible threat.

Kelsey seems immature to me given her age. She also tends to be a bit whiney, with a side of poor me. I liked the 2 Doms though. I felt their characters were in keeping with the storyline. The authors continued use of the words "the girls and slutty bitch", words Kelsey uses to describe her breasts and vagina was kind of funny. The first time I laughed. By the fifth time, it was annoying. After that, I just started swiping past the words.

The only reason I'm not giving 3 stars is because I liked the other characters.
