IT BLOWS MY MIND THAT THE EFF WORD IS CONSIDERED "ADULT LANGUAGE"
That eff word is flung around so liberally in this and to what point? To prove immaturity of spirit, lack of imagination and vocabulary???? It's used to make some characters look illiterate and stupid - unable to think of a real word or phrase to express how they are feeling, but for other characters it seems to be their badge of narcissistic superiority and dominance over other humans that they are talking to. The eff word does dominate the series, which to me is only the sad laziness of writers, producers, directors... and a network that feels so narcissisticly superior and dominant that they are saying EFF YOU to the world. Well, I don't appreciate their lack of literacy and creativity. Language is colorful and can be magical, but these choose to spend millions to film in color with black and white words.
I did get sucked into this drama and went through all 10 episodes. There was amazing production value, not much sex or violence, great human interaction drama, rich characters well established, lots of intrigue, some humor.
There is a fairly large group of people in this world that are repelled by over use of the eff word in real life as well as fantasy. I am one. Normally I would have shut this down in the middle of the first episode, but there was such great acting and other entertaining value. I seriously considered getting one of the clicker counter things to document all the eff bombs and variations of the word used.
I wondered if there really are humans like this in the world. If there are, I don't think I know any personally and will love to keep it that way. Possibly it was the family dynamics that kept me intrigued enough to watch it all, that and I was too tired to look for something else and did fall asleep several times while watching. Most of us have families and some drama. (Watching on a free HBO trial through Prime. This is not something I would ever pay to watch.)

Yet Another Dysfunctional Family
Verified purchase
The two stars are for some very fine acting. It's an especial treat to see Matthew McFayden, cast against his usual nice-guy type as an insecure, smarmy, untrustworthy family in-law who alternates between despicable and pathetic. I hope this is a game-changing role for this talented actor.
But when will writers learn that excessive use of the f-word eventually diminishes its power and renders it meaningless? This complete lack of originality weakens a script that's already a bit banal.
As for the rest of it? It took me several episodes to realize how much I disliked and was wearied of this whole bunch. It's supposed to be satire, but even the humor couldn't offset the nature of these characters: desperate for wealth, approval, success, and especially the attention and respect of the family patriarch, who's no great shakes as a human being himself. Watching their desperate maneuvering, plotting and scheming to please him and one-up both their business rivals and each other, just became a drag.
Of course there are lessons here about how wealth corrupts and how neediness can destroy us, but the message gets lost in the nastiness. I checked out early.

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED AT ALL THE BAD REVIEWS!
FANTASTIC! 10 STARS! First of all, this show is a dramedy. There were times I was hysterical laughing at the very realistic scenes. The psychological and verbal abuse of the 4 siblings was palpable, and I found myself tearing up in a few scenes. I don't know where to start with regard to the other very negative reviews. Upset about the "EFF" word ? But NOT upset about all the other shows we are subjected to with filthy sexual content, alternative life styles shoved in our faces and down our throats, disgusting verbiage which conjures up graphic mental images, simplistic characters, simplistic writing that barely scratches the surface of the human condition? I could go on forever about how good this show is, in comparison to the absolute mindless garbage that is out there. The
" EFF" word is a word. Like a comma. Has no meaning... Fits the education and family dynamics of the characters perfectly. If this show can manage to stay afloat, there is so much more to come! So much rich content in every character. I did find myself bored several times, with long shots of walking, thinking, time fillers. Other times appreciated the skip scenes i.e. , NOT watching them flying to England, (and so many other examples) We knew they were going there, so we didn't need to see the whole trip prep. The sets, costumes, realism... EVERYTHING else was fantastic! I give it 10 stars and hope that more well educated deeper thinking people find this show and watch it so it will remain in production. Then I predict several nominations and WINS !

A terrible, boring show about a terrible, boring family. Everyone is depressed, everyone is wheeling and dealing behind the backs of all their family members. I couldn't stand it. NOT RECOMMENDED!

I really love this show. It’s the best written dramatic comedy or comedic drama I’ve seen in maybe ever. Big business and backstabbing are the front runners but at the heart of the show is the relationship of the brothers and sister and their dad. Complicated and toxic but deep and real and full of very relatable relationship dynamics. Like me and my siblings minus a few billion dollars. Only minus is the extra feature is the same that’s available on behind the show extras on hbo. I really was hoping for commentary or gag reel.
