About the authors
Dale Parnell was born and raised in Norwich, and moved to Staffordshire in 1999. He has been writing for almost thirty years, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he self-published his first collection, “The Green Cathedral”, a selection of seven contemporary fantasy short stories.
This was followed by a second collection in 2019, “Bramble and other stories”, this time branching out to include horror and science-fiction as well as fantasy.
Dale’s first foray into poetry came in 2018, when he was fortunate enough to have three pieces accepted for the anthology “Further Within Darkness & Light” from Nothing Books. Since then, Dale has featured in over forty fiction and poetry anthologies from some of the best independent publishers around the world.
In 2022, Dale released his third collection, “Foundations”, featuring a variety of short stories that have been featured in previously published anthologies, along with a brand new, exclusive tale.
Dale lives in Staffordshire with his wife and their imaginary dog, Moriarty. He is currently working on a second science-fiction novella whilst he waits for the first one to be published, and his strangest wish is to find a copy of one his books for sale in a charity shop.
A lifelong writer, Nicholas Wilkinson lives in Kearny, Arizona where he writes almost every day against the backdrop of the beautiful desert vistas. Nicholas Wilkinson, along with his wife Kate, wanted to find something that they could do together as a couple, and so, "Inappropriate Children's Stories" was born. With a daughter of their own, the couple quickly realized how boring and unappealing children's books can truly be. Using rhyming couplets, the husband and wife team put their own unique twist on the everyday adventures of modern parenting.
Nick spent over 10 years working with "at-risk" youth, and Kate has worked with pre-school-aged children for as long as she can remember. Nick Wilkinson has authored books on child abuse and teens in crisis, and helping survivors of child abuse and neglect is a passion that his both personal and rewarding.
In 2018 Nick's sister Yolanda passed away because of a tragic accidental overdose, thus the book "H is for Heroin" was created to honor his sister's memory and help combat the nationwide crisis of opioid abuse and addiction

As an author, Laura Shenton is probably best known for her music non-fiction. In particular, Dance With The Devil – The Cozy Powell Story (Wymer Publishing) and Tommy Bolin – In and Out of Deep Purple (Sonicbond Publishing). She feels that preserving the legacies of musicians who have contributed something amazing to the field is imperative.
For readers who want to enjoy the ride of letting their mind get lost in a good story without having to commit to a lengthy read, then it might just be that Laura's fiction books could be your cup of tea. They are character-driven with a short and punchy narrative that gets to the point. They are all novellas or novelettes. Genres include gothic, fantasy, and adventure (mostly, but with a few diversions too).
And finally, Laura's children's books... They are simple, accessible and fun. A good choice for youngsters with a fertile imagination who are at the very start of their reading journey.

‘Audacious stories marinated in macabre, magic and mayhem.’
From the heart of Scotland, Natasha Sinclair is an independent writer, editor and artist. Working under her brand ‘Clan Witch’ for her creative endeavours and ‘Word Refinery’ for editorial works.
Her writing is often woven with horror, sex and psychological elements. She loves to frolic in the darkness with folklore and the macabre and rich history of her homeland.
Art is unrestrained freedom, as is how storytellers choose to wield the fluid movement and global diversity of language to carve captivating and authentic tales that woe, excite or terrorise an audience. Sinclair passionately embraces that, painting original characters with true form, dialect and depth. The devil is in the details.
Sinclair is the co-conspirator of ‘Brazen Folk Horror’ with her writing partner, Ruthann Jagge. The Brazen Folk Horror duo’s debut collaborative novel, Delevan House released February 1st 2023. Book II in the trilogy is underway. Keep up to date by subscribing to the #BeBrazen newsletter.

As a student, he was a two-time co-editor in chief of the college's literary and art magazine, Forte, and is a member of the international English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta.

His works have been published in numerous anthologies and magazines and have been featured on various web-based offerings, including the Horror Tree, the Sirens Call, Deadman's Tome, Fantasia Divinity Magazine, Sanitarium Magazine, and many more. While appreciating an array of genres, his favorite to both read and write in is Horror, because he's just plain weird like that!
Winters is an avid listener of all things hard-rock and heavy-metal, a compendium of comic-book knowledge, can (and will) do a perplexing array of voice impersonations, and can bend his thumbs further back than any person should have the right/capability of doing. It is all quite odd . . .

After being born on the flat and barren planes of Wichita, Kansas, Radar DeBoard had nothing but time on his hands. Plenty of time to hone his craft of writing stories that explored the darkest parts of his imagination. Once Radar had received his master's in economics, he took his works to another level, far more gruesome than the last. He can analyze your fear, truly find what keeps you up at night, and then give your greatest nightmares back to you in written form.

Here are just some of my favourites, without wanting to give too much away:
We begin with a bomb, litterally the first story titled Bombs Bursting In Air by Rachel C. Pendragon. Where we are told a tale describing gruesome and explosive death's taking place, whilst listening to America's National Anthem. A dramatic and disturbing celebration of Independence Day gone so horrifically wrong, it makes you shudder with fear.
Black Magic Treehouse by Patrick Winters
A hauntingly twisted tale of a pale skinned girl called Abigail, who had been accused of being a nasty witch. As a form of punishment she was made to swing from a tree. This one really left me with chills down my spine.
Camp Murder by Christo Healy
Shelby is hiding from an unknown killer, and this person could be so much closer than she could have ever anticipated. An eerie story that made me gulp in terror.
Beware of Animals by Rador DeBoard
This was such a delight to read, and right up my street. Darrell was alert to an intruder and decided to investigate. The words "his paw trembled" and "her brown fur all matted", had me doing a double take. Then to read "it's a human!"
This just made me realise how quickly we can make assumptions without knowing any of the facts first, and how things are not always as they seem. This story without a doubt kept me on my paws.
Party Time by Nat Whiston
It would not be summer without a concert and certainly not a British one without a bit of rain. Here the scene is set, a girl is left alone in a tent waiting for her boyfriend Michael to return. Just as she is getting cosy in her cocoon, a blade rips through the tent and she finds herself frozen on the spot and unable to move.
"A dark figure steps in and screams are concealed by the roar of the crowds".
This made me gasp in horror and conjure up alsorts of questions in my mind, leaving this story open to interpretation. Who or what could be so frightening. Could it be a creature of some sort? Or could it infact be her boyfriend Michael and if so, what has he come back as!?
Beach Day By Nat Whiston
I would strongly advise you to make the most of those sunbathing days by the beach with your loved ones, or maybe it is best to not go there in the first place. Sadly it is too late for Lisa because within the blink of an eye, she was being hacked to death by a monster. Such twisted and evil satisfaction is expressed through it's unhuman eyes and torchuring laughter, and to think that is not even the worst part!
A Birthday Wish by Dorian J. Sinnott
A boy who hated that his birthday was in summer, even worse was having to share it with his twin brother. Although there is one thing that he never has to share, and that is his birthday wish. An l must admit, this gave me an evil chuckle.
The Dive by Nicholas Wilkinson
This made me feel like l was going deeper down with every sentence, as if l was entering the twighlight zone itself. The Dive took me through majestic caves and awakened the unknown uncertanty of a beast that lay ahead, with razor'd-beak tentacles and eyes as black as coal. Describing such wonder, yet a cruel darkness that leads you to an unexpected tomb!
Web of Venom by Maggle D Brace
With the excitement of a weekend trip the first thing James does to settle in is set up his hammock. Though how much more settled in can he get, as we soon discover he is infact shrouded by cobwebs!
"His empty carcass infested with spiderlings".
This was such a creepy thought to contemplate, and poor James did not stand a chance.
Deadly Illusion by Dawn DeBraal
Vern is a chalk artist, who accepts the invitation of a chalk off competition. He has perfected his skills so well, that his art can trick the mind into visually believing that what you see before you has come to life. Little do we realise how dangerous this proves to be, and even more disturbing is Vern watching.
The Hand In The Lake by Stephen Johnson
This poem was so beautifully descriptive that l felt as if l was in tune with the movement and the motion of the ripples in the lake. Suddenly, there was a disturbance in the water and a hideous cry rings out where a bloody hand emerges! A clear warning to stay away from the hand in the lake. This story drew me in so quickly, yet made me want to pull away from the lake just as quick towards the end.
A Brief History of drabbles:
A drabble also known as flash fiction is a story made up of 100 words. Drabble story telling first came about in the early 1980's, in the UK Science Fiction Society at Birmingham University. On April Fool's Day in 1988 Rob Meades and David B Wake published a book of drabbles titled "The Drabbles Project". Since then Drabble II: Double Century (1990) and Drabble Who? (1993) were published. These three books include stories written by Neil Gaiman, Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett to name a few.
