We were so fortunate to have Mr. Smith come speak to our school in small groups. He captivated the students and gave them great advice on crafting their own stories. I especially loved that he spoke to my students much as I imagine he would speak to Derek and Sam. It was evident that he respects the insights and ingenuity of children, which I imagine is why his books are so enchanting. If you can manage to have him speak to your group, you will be find the audience enthralled by his humor and earnest love for writing for children. If that is not possible, read the book; it may just inspire you to look for your own adventure.
Plus, a great bonus, the story actually ends at the end of the book! Not one of these "series" where you have to keep buying more books to find out what happens.
I highly, highly recommend this book for any boy. My son loves to read, but this book is so well put together that I believe it would be enticing to a reluctant reader as well. I am getting ready to purchase the 2nd book!
Intrigued by its description as being a cross between the Hardy Boys & Magic Tree house series - both which my kids enjoy. Was looking for a series to get my boys more interested in reading, as well as for summer vacation.
My 6 & 8 y/o boys, & 10 y/o daughter LOVED this story!! My boys are picky readers, but thoroughly enjoyed this story. They could easily relate to the 2 main characters & were ironically very similar to them personality-wise.
All of my kids are very eager for me to get them the next books in this series!! They said hands down, this was a total "5-star book, excellent storyline, never boring, & hilarious at times." As a parent, I felt it was a definite "page turner", good & "clean" content that I didn't have to worry about the kids reading on their own. Can't say enough good things, & extremely happy with it. We look forward to reading the rest of the series! We hope this talented writer continues to write more. Definitely recommend! :)
