This one however was even worse, the narrator went on, and on, and on, and on, you get the picture, about the cycle(s) and Asfellah or whatever this supposed god's name was, and it was so very tedious! I could not see the point, there was never any real explanation for anything, just each type of race sounding superior and denying knowledge of any other, with a vague evil essence permeating things that appeared to be pollution to me rather than a conscious entity. I got so fed up with the characters I had to make myself go back a few times and read more and in the end I gave up, I had just had enough. Far too long to get to the point, even if there is one. This series started quite well, but got lost somewhere. Don't bother unless you are bored and have absolutely nothing better to do.
I could almost feel the frustration of the lead with the same thing being said over and over, countless times. This could have been a filler book or easily merged with a proper storyline. After how promising the first 3 in the series were, this was hugely disappointing. The characters in this storyline are all born cryptics. There are no explanations, it feels like you're getting stonewalled by a story.
I wish the plot had been fleshed out more, this could have been a good continuation of the series if the right elements had been focussed on. The editing leaves much to be desired. I'm not even sure why or how I managed to finish reading it but I breathed a sigh of relief when I was done with it.
Avoid at best, read if you must, but at your own peril.
