A Q&A with the Star* of our book, Sun *Get it? Star of our book?
Who is your favorite planet? And remember, this book will be read mostly by Earthlings.
Of course I don't have a favorite. Each is special--and kind of puny. That's like asking a human to pick a favorite fingernail.
You've been around for nearly 4.6 billion years, and are expected to shine at least 6 billion more. How do you stay so enthusiastic?
I like to keep moving. As you have read, I rotate. But also, about every 11 years, my poles change magnetic polarity. I also orbit the Milky Way--taking Earth and all my planets with me. That's a long trip--about 230 million years.
Do you have any advice for readers?
Yes. Never stare directly at me--even during a solar eclipse--because I can damage your eyes. You delicate earthlings can't handle my ultraviolet rays. Also, eat your vegetables. I helped grow them.

Stacy McAnulty is a children’s book author, who used to be a mechanical engineer, who’s also qualified to be a dog therapist (is that a thing???), a correspondent for The Daily Show (why not), and a Green Bay Packer coach (totally!).

When not writing, Stacy likes to listen to NPR, bake triple-chocolate cupcakes, and eat triple-chocolate cupcakes. Originally from upstate NY, she now lives in Kernersville, NC with her 3 kids, 3 dogs, and 1 husband.

These stories are narrated by their main character. So, Sun writes about itself (and does a fantastic job, I might add). Readers learn about Sun's classification in the Milky Way, its nearest neighbor stars, how hot and how far away it is from things all within a first person narrative that grabs kids' attentions.
Stevie Levis' artwork is bold and bright and inspired. Perfect for a story that takes place in outer space and on earth's surface (when discussing how Sun helps earthlings).
This is one of those series that you'll want the entire collection. We can't wait for the upcoming titles.
