The sister bond between Brielle and Valera goes deep and this book actually focuses more on the relationship between the sisters than the relationship between Valera and Erolas. I was surprised at how deeply interwoven Brielle was into this book, but I didn’t mind it. And I do hope that Sylvia Mercedes gives Brielle her own duology (Little Red Riding Hood vibes, anyone?).
I really, really wanted to like the ending of this book more. But after Valera fought and fought and fought to simply come face to face with Erolas, I found their initial meeting lackluster, and the subsequent meetings after. There was no heat and sexual tension between them as there was in the first novel. The final scene between them I found disappointing as well. I don’t mind that the bedroom scene is off-the-page. But there should be some build up to the moment! After all, both Erolas and Valera have gone through hell to get back to one another again.
I enjoy Sylvia Mercedes’ writing always, and shall forever be her avid fan. Also, those covers, though! These may be her most beautiful covers yet! And if there was a voting contest for most beautiful cover, one of these in this duology would certainly win!
Two stars bc at least the very end of the book was pretty good and wrapped it up well. Thank Jesus there is no 3rd book or there’s no way I could have kept going.

I do think both parts would have been best as 1 whole book though, otherwise an enjoyable story and I look forward to trying more books from this author.
