Every winter, Innkeepers look forward to celebrating their own special holiday, which commemorates the ancient treaty that united the very first Inns and established the rules that protect them, their intergalactic guests, and the very unaware/oblivious people of [planet] Earth. By tradition, the Innkeepers welcomed three guests: a warrior, a sage, and a pilgrim, but during the holiday, Innkeepers must open their doors to anyone who seeks lodging. Anyone.
All Dina hopes is that the guests and conduct themselves in a polite manner. But what’s a holiday without at least one disaster?

About the author

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.
They have co-authored four NYT and USAT bestselling series, the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial. For complete list of their books, fun extras, and Innkeeper installments, please visit their website at Ilona-andrews.com.

This one is shorter than some of the others, but its still a wonderful visit at Gertrude Hunt!
I'm completely in on this series now and will buy each installment. A happy series.

At the end of book 3, one Fell Sweep, we had 2 couples, Dina and Sean who got their happy ever after and Maud and Arland who still had to get there. Book 3 ended a quite epic bit of story telling with a few loose ends to take us into the next book. The authors chose to go with Maud and Arland off world away from the Inn for book 4.
We will have to wait a year for the next full novel so in this story we get to catch up with Dina Sean and the Inn. It starts days after book 3 ended with Dina and Sean expecting to go before the Innkeeper Assembly as a result of the previous adventures. However, a dangerous guest who wants to stay at the Inn for a special meeting, a group of philosophying space chickens needing a place to have a gathering, an alien general looking to visit the Alamo and Orro going to see his TV chef hero in action all need to be dealt with first.
This was written for the authors website around Christmas and it has a light hearted feel and plenty of fun. There is that bit of darkness that makes it worth reading but the overall story arc doesn't really move forward. We have to wait for book 6 to se if Dina gets closer to finding her missing family.
It's a must have for anyone reading the series and makes a taster for anyone who wants to try the series. Its too short to have room for much back story so you need to accept it as it is.

I really wish they were longer, I would happily read a 1000 page book about Dina and co. That's my only complaint.
I loved her relationship with Sean in this one, I'm glad they're getting their happily ever after. After everything, they deserve it. I like how he's still his badass soldier self, even while settling into life as an innkeeper.
As usual, the residents of the Inn were delightful. Orro is one of my favourites and he was superb in this book. I laughed out loud a lot at his parts, I feel like I should now start randomly shouting 'Fire!' when I'm excited. I'm so glad he got to see his mentor at the end, it was so heartwarming. I wish I had Orro in my kitchen!
Her Grace was excellent, I love that she's currently playing the part of a gossipy old woman, obsessed with the neighbours and their drama. I forgot who she really was for a moment. I have a feeling that Caldenia is going to become important in later books. I think housing her for so long has to buy Dina a lot of good will. So hopefully, when she emerges from her seclusion, she'll remember Dina is a friend.
The actual plot of this one was fun. Dina handles a crisis really well. I adored her interactions with the chickens, so much!
I'm hoping the assembly will back off and give her the credit she deserves. She handles situations that would terrify other innkeepers and they need to cut her some slack. She deserves another star rating for her Inn at the very least. The assembly feel like bullies to me and I don't like it.
I love Dina's new friend. I like that she was human but became something else, it reminds me of Sean's journey, even though he's a werewolf . (speaking of, I freaking loved the part where he bit that assassin's head, great stuff.)
The battle was great but again, way too short, I want more! I enjoyed Sean just sitting behind his ridiculously large guns, blasting away.
Overall, I loved it, I want to reread the whole lot.

In this installment Dina is anxious about the Assembly issue that was raised in the previous book, Tony makes a brief appearance but that doesn't leave one with a sense of confidence about the whole thing I must say. However this is resolved by the end , thankfully.
All our favourite characters are back and on FIRE! Dina and Sean are just divine as a partnership and continue to make me root for their happy ending, we meet new and unusual friends and Marias even makes a not so subtle return as well.
The imagination that goes into these novels and other sentient species is astounding and this husband and wife duo have a spectacular talent for story telling!
If you have never read anything by Ilona Andrews I can say you are surely missing out, these are certainly worth investing time, money and endless emotion in.
Let's hope the next installment isn't too long a wait!

I was pleasently surprised by this popping up in January! I was very happy with the small glipses it gives of Dina & Sean, as they settle into being a couple. Lord alone knows that 'One Fell Sweep' was tumultuous from start to finish. So getting a taster of an Innkeeper 'holiday' seem like a nice relaxing plot. I thought it was going to remain on these lines.
The story give realxed descriptions of Orro's utter passion cooking, Sean getting used to being just 'Sean' and not a killing machine, crazy space chickens (LOL), a guest who is on a pligrimage, and a mysterious creature callled a Drífan! The DrÍfan liege, who turns out to be a kick-ass sword fighter. A being who has returned to Earth to deal with matters from her past!
It was really fun and interesting story. It did leave me begging for more though! So the geek I am, I hope we have been left clues as to future events, but even if we do not, then this wasa great story for IA fans.
