Summer Lovin' by Jacquie Biggar:
This is a sweet story about Rebecca and Mitch, a separated couple, who married in Vegas secretly on a whim and are living in the same town. Even though it was years prior they never signed divorce papers. One day after Rebecca comes out of the school where she works she encounters a young boy whom she ends up assisting. The boy's guardian shows up and has a confrontation with Rebecca until Mitch steps in to rescue her. Up until this point, they had managed to avoid each other. They are concerned for the welfare of the boy. Can they make sure this boy is safe and are the sparks between Rebecca and Mitch still there?
(Wounded Hearts series Book 5) by Jaquie Biggar
Rebecca Sorenson is a secretary at the local elementary school. She loves to ride her bike to and from home to school and back ms whenever else she can.
Mitch Taylor was on his way to the NFL when an injury permanently ended his career and he had to decide what he was going to do with his life. He became a top of the line, the man to go to for any professional welding job.
Five years ago they were born in the same bar in Las Vegas, he drowning his sorrows over his lost NFL dreams and she for a teachers convention.
They ended up married by a justice of the peace dressed like Elvis. They had one amazing night and the next morning she was a gone. Shortly after that she sent Mitch separation papers. Despite living in the same small town, no one knows that they got married and are still married as they run in different circles and have pretty much avoided one another since that night.
That is until he happens to be at the elementary school with his friend Kyle and sees someone come over hassling a kid. Becky has been helping him with a broken lock on his bike. When she tries to explain the man yells at her. Suddenly Mitch appears at her side. Old memories come up for both of them and events take place where they are both present. As much as they want to avoid one another and Becky is fighting being near Mitch, while Mitch is no longer avoiding Becky. In time feelings start to grow, their relationship takes a positive turn, and soon all are amazed that these two are already married and have been for the past five year.
This novella was a fun and flirty read. It has many of the the same characters that have been in Tidal Falls from the beginning, those that have transplanted, and some that line in one place but return home to Tidal Falls as often as they can. This was the lead up to Annie and Jared's wedding. It also introduces Becky and Mitch to a greater degree than in previous Tidal Falls books.
The author has a great cast of characters that the reader can't help but fall in love with and continue to feel that they know them as friends and neighbors. The town of Tidal Falls is one that the reader is ready to move to in an instant.
There is something special about this novella as it is not just about pre-wedding planning and celebrations or rekindled lost love, but it is also about saving two boys from a life of misery, beatings and deprivation and teaching them what family and true love is really about.
The multiple story lines blend very well together and allows the reader to learn even more about all the characters internally and externally. There is more in-depth feelings and thoughts revealed behind many of the characters. Misunderstandings are revealed and dealt with and the honesty, be it spoken or unspoken, reveals stronger and more realistic characters allowing this novel to feel more open to the reader. A great attribute demonstrated by the author.
