I wanted to love this book. I have loved the Savvy series until this book. This felt like an attempt to recreate the original, brilliant story, but it was kind of a sad attempt. The characters in her band are more 2-dimensional. The romance is too contrived. The dialog is just weird sometimes. What really bugged me about it was the switch of powers. It causes some serious plot holes. I don’t recommend it.

I loved this new edition of the series featuring Gypsy. Where Ledger Kale of Scumble was all fumble, hormones and savvy driven infatuation Gypsy was really refreshing. She was a strong lead struggling with giant problems. On one hand she wanted to fit in and be considered grown up, on the other hand she was struggling to come to terms with a cranky grandmother in an impossible situation. Finally she became more "grown up" then the friend who had spurned her could hope to be for many years to come. Gypsy was an admirable character full of determination and wonder, she fought with the need to prove herself to others and came out on top- something Ledger never did. I would recommend this book to anyone who found the first book amazing, even if you found the second (as I did) kind of a weak follow up. Switch comes back strong and was all the more enjoyable for the contrast.

Not as good as the first two. Starts slow. Everything has be explained all over again - again. When writing a series, subsequent books should not be explained like a first book. Do a synopsis at the beginning to summarize what needs to be remembered, and then more forward. If someone hasn't read the previous book(s), then they shouldn't be reading the current one (including children!). The story actually gets rolling about halfway through.

Between the "switch" and certain natural laws pertaining thereto, it seems like a cheap grab for a sequel. Gypsy is so resentful she's hard to like or even sympathize. Many bad decisions that can't necessarily be explained by "resentful, panicking teenager."

Bottom line: OK ... 3-1/2 stars

A great final book to a wonderful series! I loved learning about Gypsy Beaumont, and had a great time reading about the crazy adventure she and her brothers went on. Ingrid Law did not disappoint in this exciting final book, the last in the Savvy series. If you liked this book as much as I did, try reading Drizzle by Kathleen Van Cleve. It had a similar "finding yourself" message to it, along with a hint of magic!
