Blog postMy family has a few New Year’s Day traditions. The Tournament of Roses Parade is one of them. I think it would so neat to work on one of those floats. Of course we have to have something good to eat while watching it. Our meal always includes collard greens and black-eyed peas. This tradition is to insure good fortune in the upcoming year. I’m not one for superstition, but why chance it? Plus, this Southern girl loves her some collards.
Oh, and we do abide by one superstition: Do not4 months ago Read more -
Blog postIt’s that time of year again! A cool breeze in the air, soft snuggly sweaters, cozy décor, and all things pumpkin spice! I love to see all the various pumpkin spice trends each fall season. Folks are getting more and more creative by the year.
A few things I’ve found this year so far:
1. Pumpkin Spice Malted Milk Balls
2. Pumpkin Spice Seltzer Water
3. Pumpkin Spice Hot Cocoa Mix
4. Pumpkin Spice Deodorant (Nonedible)

Blog postSummer break is officially over and it’s time to put these fingers to the keyboard to crank out my next story, Indigo Isle! Here’s the information Publisher’s Marketplace shared about the book, so it should be fine to share it with you. Hopefully, I’ll be able to share more soon!
This blog will be short and sweet so I can dive back into my imagination and see where it leads this new story. Truly, there’s no way I could write without it! I think one of the most phenomenal gifts we all h8 months ago Read more -

Blog postIt goes without having to be said that I love my two children beyond measure, but it’s a pleasant surprise that I actually like them too.
My oldest, Nate the Great, turned 20 last week. On his birthday, I looked at him and said, “This time 20 years ago… I was begging the doctor to make the pain go away!” Nate didn’t find that as amusing as I did, but I was the one who labored for over 30 hours without an epidural, so I can crack as many jokes as I very well please.

Blog postAs an author, I have a pass to explore some pretty unusual things. From funeral homes to proper donut eating techniques. Seriously, I LOVE my job!
My latest research has sent me on a cemetery exploring kick for my next book. News on that soon, I hope! I’ve visited several cemeteries around my state recently. Thank goodness there are really no Covid restrictions for these locations.
Of course, I had to visit the Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston, SC. And all I can say is wow. Thi11 months ago Read more -
Blog postYou could say I’m a little weird about odd numbers. I like them. I always crack an odd amount of eggs when I’m cooking them. If there’s a number picking need, it’s normally 7 or at least odd. So you can imagine how stoked I was when I found out that Under the Magnolias would be releasing in an odd number month, the same odd number month of my birthday, May. And hello odd numbered year 2021. This is also my seventeenth published book! The oddness just keeps piling up. Lol. Please understand, I1 year ago Read more

Blog post“Tobacco season was more like a carefully paced marathon than a sprint.” -Austin Foster, Under the Magnolias
Under the Magnolias is set on Nolia Farms, a tobacco farm in the 1980’s. I have personal experience with tobacco farming, because it was my very first job. And what a first job experience it was! I learned many a lesson during that summer job, but the one I’d like to share with you today is the importance of prep work.

Blog postI don’t know about you, but I find perfection in the perfectly imperfect. I love that my God is the same, and it seems He can do much more with the imperfect. For that, I am greatly thankful, because this gal is a hot mess most days and so far from perfect every day.
I hope you will bear with me and not get tired of my ramblings on about being different and unique this year, but I just find it to be a very important topic. It’s relevance provoked an entire book about differences. (It1 year ago Read more -

Blog postWell, it’s the season of love, right? And we should be working on our glittery heart cards, ordering dozens of overpriced red roses, hunting down giant boxes of chocolates (I recommend a Whitman’s Sampler), and making reservations for a romantic dinner.
We are living in a different time at the moment. Seriously, the world is upside down, so why not shake up Valentine’s Day while we’re at it. Instead of long-stem red roses, plant a rosebush or tree together. My husband and I are on the1 year ago Read more -
Blog postEvery New Year, resolutions are in the air. The determination to make changes, set goals, reinvention, etc. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with any of that, but what if there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you just being you?

Blog post“Christmas was so hectic, we didn’t even get to enjoy it!”
Am I the only one who has stated this in past Christmases? For years, all the shopping, baking, planning, get-togethers, and parties have had our calendars stuffed much like the oversized turkeys that took hours upon hours to prep and cook and only minutes to devour.

Blog postLife is complicated. That’s a fact. We may not have much control over it, but what we do have control over is how we respond to it. I don’t know about you, but my family and I have realized the importance of our response to life in this past year. Of course, we haven’t handled it the way we should each and every time, but we’ve figured a few things out. A main one is that busyness is just too busy and mostly unnecessary. This night not only marked the end to the drought, but also the end to the long-held secret we’d kept hidden under the magnolias.
Magnolia, South Carolina, 1980
Austin Foster is barely a teenager when her mama dies giving birth to twins, leaving her to pick up the pieces while holding her six siblings together and doing her best to stop her daddy from retreating into his personal darkness.
Scratching out a living on the family’s tobacco farm is as tough as it gets. When a few random acts of kindness help to ease the Fosters’ hardships, Austin finds herself relying upon some of Magnolia’s most colorful citizens for friendship and more. But it’s next to impossible to hide the truth about the goings-on at Nolia Farms, and Austin’s desperate attempts to save face all but break her.
Just when it seems she might have something more waiting for her—with the son of a wealthy local family who she’s crushed on for years—her father makes a choice that will crack wide-open the family’s secrets and lead to a public reckoning. There are consequences for loving a boy like Vance Cumberland, but there is also freedom in the truth.
T. I. Lowe’s gritty yet tender and uplifting tale reminds us that a great story can break your heart . . . then heal it in the best possible way.
