Not a wall-to-wall action film but a really entertaining action-thriller about an ex-con who takes on a suicide mission for the slim chance of getting to start his life over. The kind of movie where there is some character build before the explosive violence begins. I prefer this style of movie over endless action because at least you get some good characters and story mixed in. Felt like a cross between American History X and Taken.

This movie didnt impress me. Although i was trying to watch a movie quickly before work. I felt like i picked the wrong film i was severely bored for most of the film. I was thankfully only needed to half pay attention but it about itook 40 minutes to get the 'reformed convict' to carry out his mission and for use to get an action scene. In the meantime they TRIED to build out the story supporting characters with a bunch of meandering and uninteresting scenes (and pointless silence).The story isnt EVEN THAT GOOD or original to spend 40 mins on that. Work out your cookie cutter characters (bad russian man, russian underlings, loner stoic hero, love interest) and lets go.

The first set of action scenes where he kills the AryanBrotherhooders was kinda cool. Though it then goes on to wander more into the story about how the reformed convict was spotted and now needs to be taken out. There is a long drought of no action until he goes to a bar where his neighbor is performing...i forgot to say that they tried to build the typical hitman/assasin/recluse/goodguy has a connection with his neighbor cliche/trope (ie pro his love interest).... but the girl who is playing her was actually kinda annoying and pretty rude so not only did i not care for her butfound it unbelievable anyone would give af about her in real life like our "hero" did. Plus the connection happened over like a short two days of crappy encounters. Lol

Oh and for some reason the girl is targeted by hitman's former employers and she walks in on him killing some bad guy....and gives that tired and doesnt fot the scenes/mood/story "no no no no. get away from me. I cant believe you did this". At this point in the ful. I was prob an hour and some change in but i had enough with the writing and directing and turned it off

I think i may be spoiled by better action films with this type story but i didnt feel it'd be worth it to continue. 2 stars because the camerawork and acting is generally good.

That sums it up. The plot is not very original. The production quality was very good. But the movie is glacial at times - especially in the first 30 minutes. By the one hour mark, I was starting to fast forward. The plot is predictable, as is the end. But the movie is passable and watchable. It just isn't "mission impossible" level of activity.

Sometimes a movie with imperfections can be *very* satisfying.

Setting is Russian winter. Characters are Russian drug criminals. There are issues, murders, potential second chances, thoughts of what could be, and resolutions. It's not Mission Impossible, John Wick, or slick. Characters mostly speak English. If technical perfection is your criteria, have a mood chiller and relax. It's not a work of art, it's pretty straightforward, and as the title says.

I rated it 5 stars for the overall experience, and the way it left me feeling at the end.
