5.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Jeff Wheeler
By Timothy A on November 9, 2021
I've been a fan of Jeff's work for some time now and truly enjoyed the journey he laid out in this short story collection. From the his most recent work included (The Falling of the Archeantus), to his fledgling years (The Wishing Lantern), Jeff demonstrates the breadth of his talent as a storyteller that extends beyond his best-selling worlds (Kingfountain, Muirwood). Despite being short stories I never felt like the stories were rushed, but instead lived up to Jeff's reputation as a renowned world-builder with characters that are both interesting and relatable. Even when not world-building, the research Jeff does to bring authenticity in his settings is always top notch (El Chupacabra, The Ravenmaster). I would very much like to see Jeff further explore some of the themes further into larger novels (The Beesinger's Daughter, The Falling of the Archeantus, The Wishing Lantern). Overall I enjoyed reading this collection and I think you will too.
