Wasn't sure what to expect with this book but was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of all the stories! Each one was engaging and fun to read and I never knew what kind of creature was going to pop up. Some stories were thought provoking, some emotional and all were fun and easy to read! The editor did a fantastic job of choosing for this edition and I can't wait to read more from this label!!! A win all the way around!!!
The worst part about reading a lot of books, is running out of material from your usual authors. This book solves that problem, giving you samples of all their writing styles. Sword and sorcery and monsters galore. A couple fresh new authors, and the rest with other material to go check out once this book is finished. A great way to find your new favorite author, while immersing yourself in some well crafted universes.
There's something for everybody in this one! Good "monsters," ones that want to kill, and even a couple you've seen before if you read any anthologies from Chris Kennedy Publishing.
One of my favorites was a Balance of Kerr story by Kevin Steverson. It's always nice to see a major universe fleshed out more with these short stories. Another great one was from the POV of a monster by Casey Moores.
Humanity has always feared and been fascinated by monsters. But what makes a monster? In this anthology you will find many answers to that question. Here there be medusae, spiders of great size, the undead in many forms, ogres, werewolves, and, of course, dragons. Things strange and wonderful: things fearsome and dark. This is a great read, and will keep you turning pages 'til the end.
Talons and Talismans is a diverse collection of stories ranging from the grim to the light-hearted, and I enjoyed each one. To choose a favorite would be a difficult task with so many likable, well-written characters. I could call out kudos to each author and recount memorable moments from each story. Well done all. Give me more.
From the moment I started reading I couldn't stop! It was like being on a multiversal ride sliding from one thrilling dimension into the next. There are fantasy tales, post apocalyptic ones, also stories that cross over with our world. I found myself loving the characters and wanting more of their stories! Lovinah, Jehanne, were just two of my dearly favored among this trove of brilliantly written women. The men were just as fascinating, overall a well balanced, well paced collection. Nothing drags or seems out of place. I had fun reading each story and can happily say, I want more like this. Well done!
A number of new tales here. While I’ve read most of the authors the stories have that little different twist. All very readable. They all have me thinking “hmmm. So when does the Talons and Talismens2 come out”. Yes. It’s good enough that I will preorder #2 (as I’m sure there will be). Interesting stories here. Well done people.
