Be still my heart! It won’t stop racing after that ending! I’m loving the way this story is going! It still has the same fast paced plot progression as book one and its glorious not to have to wait through unnecessary drama to get answers. The romance between Addie and Clark is absolutely delicious, but I’m anxious to see where it goes from the quick evolution that took place in their relationship. There were a few inconsistencies in the story, like Gunther turning because of the “rustling of leaves,” even though he’s deaf and would never respond to a noise. I enjoyed the “flashbacks” into the “protector” and the “princess,” but I also hated how they detracted from the flow of the overall plot. It’s good info to know, but I would’ve preferred to stay the course of the main plot than interrupt the flow, especially with the “princesses” flashbacks. I loved all the characters and the real life emotions they emitted throughout the story. I felt that there was some unnecessary plot, in that, what purpose did Clark and his brothers really have? After Addie was rescued they had no purpose. And they had no real purpose in even doing that except for Clark’s growing interest that he refused to acknowledge and the fact that they all had nowhere to really go. But it felt like a missing narrative more than just happenstance or whatever you want to call it. I didn’t hate it, because I’m loving them all together, but it felt adrift to not have a purpose for the majority of this story. Onward to book three!

This was a great follow-up! So much action, the plot never slowed for me and I couldn’t put this down. You get some backstory on Xavier and Nell which really help explain some plot points. The tension of the will they/won’t they with Clark and Addie’s relationship was killing me. All of the characters get so much development in this story as the pieces begin to fall into place but still so many questions remain. I can’t wait to dig into Book 3.

I love the fleshed out characters and interaction of such distinct personalities. There is so much depth to each person and they are consistent Love runs thru the relationships. They are not sappy nor maudlin but clearly distinct individuals with strengths and weaknesses. Bravery and fear and steadfastness as well as fear and love sets each character apart as they stand together.

I really Loved The Fractured Empire and scrambled to get my hands on the sequel as fast as possible.

Once again I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters, but this book seemed a bit rougher, and there were definitely a few things that didn't work for me. The pacing seemed inconsistent, and I found myself a bit frustrated with the progress of the plot and with Addie's development.

I still really like all of the characters, and I'll pick up Book Three to see where the story takes them, but I'm hoping Book Three will be able to capture more of the magic that was Book One.

So good!!!! The world that Mahle is creating for us is so complex at this stage. The magic gives me all the Atlantis vibes. With the blue lights and higher tech, the lost/forgotten city. Then we have a vague understanding of what is actually happening all around. Who's the bad guy? Who is really after our crew of misfits? Will Addie ever open up and let her mask fall for a last time? What kind of power do these stones from Levalia actually hold?

While I thought I would hate this it's nice to not read another predictable book. We did have our typical love story that makes me want to scream at times, "One of you just say how you actually feel!?" But it was still good. I loved that Addie didn't just give her trust away and that she understands the importance of love over anger. Once we have the whole backstory to why these parents keep making crappy decisions, everything should make so much more sense.

I really enjoyed the small chapters of the "Protector" and the "Princess". It adds more depth to the storyline and plot. By writing these chapters as more of glimpses into the past and what leads to the present, it was just perfection.

⭐⭐ Good pace for a second book, and the twists and turns the story took makes this an entertaining read.

⭐⭐⭐ I can not get enough of these characters and this world!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Anyone who likes the Atlantis story lines and a strong personality in a female lead character (everyone) should read this!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looking forward to a reread.
