Top notch tv show

The Bridge is one of the best tv shows I've ever seen. I think it underperformed due to poor marketing and the fact it has a very real feel to it, so the violence can be hard to stomach. Everything about it is simply perfect, excellent actors, story, directing and so much fun to watch. One of my top 5 favs of all time, so hoping a streaming service picks it up and does more seasons. Each season is a complete story, so at least it doesn't leave you hanging after season 2. Both seasons are masterful.

Mystery, Suspense, Great Characters, I thoroughly recommend!

This series is fabulous. We have watched the other version of The Bridge which didn’t hold a candle to this American version. We also watched The Tunnel
which was an excellent series taking part between the UK and France. The American version of the The Bridge takes place between El Paso Tx and Mexico. The first scene is a woman’s dead body lying on the Bridge. She is placed half in the US and half in Mexico. Spoiler: You quickly find out she has been cut in half and there are parts from two different women. And then you’re off! If you don’t mind blood, it’s a little rough around the edges, and you really enjoy mysteries and suspense, this is definitely a series for you. And don’t forget to watch The Tunnel!
UPDATE!!!! I was wrong. I had only watched 2 episodes of the original Bridge ( Denmark/Sweden) and I just couldn’t get into it. I went back to see again because my husband and I were in withdrawal from the American version. So okay, we just finished the first season and it is fabulous!! It just simply took a few episodes to get going. Hold onto your seats! If you like intense mystery’s this show is FOR YOU! It even has 3 seasons! Yikes!

Gritty border cop series --- GREAT!
Verified purchase
Wonderful, gritty cop series finishing the tale begun in season 1. Two key cops, one Mexican and one American, work mostly together solving grisly crimes on both sides of the Texas/Mexico border. Both are flawed, but in very different (and sometimes incompatible) ways. Supporting cast is very good also. Interweaving cases cause some confusion, but it all works out, in a good guys win/but in a cynical-world-that-probably-will-continue-to-be-ugly way. Especially good points: 1) the Americans are a collection of good, bad and ugly people, but in about the same proportion as the Mexicans. 2) the American cop seems to be a high functioning autistic person, but it is never specifically mentioned, and is just another part of her character. 3) all of the characters are given a chance to develop their individuality, instead of just generic stereotypes.
I really have enjoyed both seasons and wish there could be more. Most of the dialogue is in English; Spanish parts have easy to read subtitles.

Disturbingly Brilliant!

I give it only 4 Stars because of male caretakers weekness as portrayed in the series. I know it's because of the excellent work of Demain Bichir in portraying Detective Ruiz that I feel this and I wouldn't change his betrayal of thischaracter. Ruiz just isn't someone I'd to have around my family. Cross on the other hand would provide consistency. Yes, it actually was a five star performance. I just couldn't allow myself to give it all 5. I will recommend it to friends and continue to purchase future releases.

Fabulous and relevant
Verified purchase
Fabulous - and relevant, with a wonderfully novelistic approach.

What began last season with a somewhat unusual plot, featuring a vengeful serial killer in Ciudad Juarez, has developed into a marvelously rich tapestry of interwoven stories and examination of cultural traditions. This season also features the most marvelous villainess ever, the incredible, seemingly logical, Eleanor Nacht, a tattooed and shunned Mennonite who works as an accountant/fixer for the Mexican drug cartel headed by the violent campesino druglord, Fausto Galvan. Eleanor has been terribly betrayed by both her family and society, and the only thing she really cares about is revenge, through in the course of her work, while always invoking the [ spiritual] light, she manages to leave a bloody trail -and do away with any man who oversteps himself.

In this season, the two journalists, the drunken and cynical Daniel Frye and the hardworking realist Adriana Mendez, discover links between the CIA, corrupt American banks, a powerful Mexican corporation and the cartel.

Texas police detective Sonya Cross, meanwhile, faces her own demons concerning the death of her sister, and learning that life is not entirely black and white humanizes in the process, becoming more mature and compassionate. Marco Ruiz , her Juarez counterpart, must face the fall -out of his own choices and the loss of his family-while finally realizing he can no longer turn a blind eye to the rampant and abusive corruption in the Juarez police department.

Weird loner Steven Linder and lovely Eva, a girl raped by the Juarez police, seemingly fall in love-and the hapless Miss Charlotte, her idiotic lover Ray, and her faithful partner Caesar are terrorized by both the DEA and the cartel.

A taut script and terrific acting will keep you on the edge of your seat--but, at least for me, Franka Potente, as Miss Nacht, was so original, and her character so insane, so beautifully brought to life by the actress--that I couldn't get enough of her and her antics. Marvelous and much better than the first season.

Needing the bridge back
Verified purchase
Simply said this was/is the greatest detective program available. The main characters were so compelling and it was very interesting to see each of them in their down time which was no picnic. Each has an unusual skill that enhances their job performance. This is not superman. Raw and heartbreaking, I didn't miss an episode. They had each other's back and their personal issues was like gas on fire. I have no idea why the show was d'cd after season 3. But it left me feeling aborted, truly burdened that this amazing story about police working from both sides of the border coming together to solve cases involving brilliant criminals with hardcore motives and where professional expectations blur because they had to. Cryptic and frustrating, the personal lives of each detective slowly exposed to the "aha" moment. So much to work with it is a great letdown to see the bridge go down.

Absolutely great series with outstanding performances by all the actors and actresses but the 3rd season was canceled and the 2nd season was not released on Blu-Ray. Too bad FX, I'm less likely to watch future FX productions with this kind of decision making.

May not be a ten for everyone, but worked for me. Characters were qwirky, and acting was solid.
Plot meanders around, but the cast makes up for the wandering. The grabber is right out of the gate,
with the initial murder dilemma. This is a remake of a Danish or Swedish plot, which is also excellent.
I'd love to disclose the dilemma, but won't. Get it and see for yourself.
