5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Practical Intro to Personal Finance
By Taylor on January 4, 2018
I've been following The Financial Diet since it was a little Tumblr blog, and I'm happy to say that this book didn't disappoint. This is a great primer for people who are new to personal finance concepts. In addition to learning about budgets, investing, mortgages, etc, you'll also find guides on how to talk to your friends about money and what ingredients you can use to jump-start your kitchen. In particular, I loved the DIY/home improvement essentials from Chelsea's mom; I know I'll be referencing that chapter again at some point.

All in all, this is a fun and practical introduction to personal finance. It's witty, honest, and offers a refreshing outlook on money and living a balanced life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you autistic/ADHDer? Not every advice will make sense but some definitely does!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 13, 2020
I've been following the youtube channel of the Financial diet for a few years now and it has helped me become much better at finances despite it being american. I bought their book as a Christmas gift to my younger sister who is just starting adulthood. It's already arrived so I've had a peek inside:

I think there is good advice there, and a lot of inspiration. I'm not in love with every advice, but I don't think a single book with general ideas can address every single situation. Me and my sister are autistic, she also has ADHD. There is advice in the book about progressing in your career, meeting and talking to people etc, but I can never follow this because of my autism - I'd never be able to 'succeed' in the conventional way because I can't market myself, I lack a lot of actual ability to even understand the point.

To me, if I am good at my skills, I should be hired, and that would apply to anyone. I don't have the capacity to socialise, or mingle, or 'meet and approach the right people'. I always stand out as the 'weird anticocial one' in any group, unless it's a group of fellow neurodiverse people. So no way I can make my life work following advice written for non-autistic people.

That said, there is loads of ideas that can be seen as general, and even my autistic butt benefits from them, and I feel inspired. Obviously for someone with ADHD this book may well prove a chore, but I hope that the casual language will make the process smoother. :D
