One of the BEST shows EVER!

I marathon watched the first 2 seasons on Netflix and then came here for Season 3. So sad this year's season 4 is the last. The Killing is AMAZING TELEVISION. It's so smart and nuanced I stayed up for hours watching one episode after another. It's a quiet show set in a rainy, depressing Seattle locale. If you don't balance this show with something light and happy, you could feel dark if you binge on it - it could change your mood. But you will not be able to stop watching, it's addicting. The actors are some of the best I've seen on TV. These characters are real, and gritty, nothing pretty and superficial about them. Completely believable and you begin to really care about them and the storyline.
Seasons 1 & 2 are the same storyline and then Season 3 is a new case with some carry over or overlapping stories from the previous seasons. People who love The Killing, we're like a cult. Also, watch Top of the Lake (BBC) on Netflix if you like The Killing. The shows feel similar, same quality, amazing acting in that, too.

Oh man! They blew it.

I couldn't wait for this season to come out on Netflix and I bought all the episodes. I totally loved Seasons 1 and 2. This one is actually really good until the last two episodes where they drop the ball at the 90 yard line! Grrrrrr....I hate when they do that to a perfectly good show. I had a tough time rating this because like I said episodes 1-10 were good and then....plunk. Of course they left questions for a Season 4. But if there is no 4, what then? Also, in this Season 3 Sarah Linden looks like a psycho crazy woman who really IS unbalanced. Now you see WHY she was put away in a looney bin for awhile in the past. My guess is that is where she'll be in Season 4 if there is one..in the nut house. She has to be bipolar or something because you will see in the beginning how she flips from happy, happy, joy joy to.....I am psycho Sarah so leave me alone or you'll be sorry!!!. Like take meds Sarah. Besides that and the crummy ending its pretty good. They still make you wonder "who dunnit" for awhile but no surprise at the end. Bummer. So, if you loved Seasons 1 and/or 2, go ahead and watch it but don't expect a thriller, logical ending or you will be as disappointed as I am. One more thing, does anyone recall Sarah having an affair with her boss in 1 or 2? Hmmmm...me either.

ONE OF THE BEST, MOST INNOVATIVE SHOWS ON TV-CANCELLED!
Verified purchase
I loved this series so much because it didn't fit a mold like so many copy-cat shows. It was new, fresh and innovative. The characters were flawed, but good people. The main character's Linden & Holder had real depth and we got more than a glimpse into their lives outside of their jobs. It was an all around fantastic series. Cancelled I guess for the last time. I hate being jerked around, but I'm "just a consumer."

Closed Captions Fixed

I wrote:

I purchased this episode as part of a season pass, automatically billed to my Amazon store card. Come to discover that this is the first episode this year which does not have closed captioning. I have terrible tinnitus (ringing/buzzing in the ears) and a general hearing loss, so closed captions are necessary for me to pick up all the dialogue, especially when Holder is mumbling as he so often does. I'm sure the episode is up to the high standards of the other episodes I've viewed so far this season. However, I had to stop watching after 15 minutes of frustration at not being able to follow the story.

UPDATE: Amazon customer service was very understanding. Refunded me the purchase price of this episode and stopped my season pass. If I check back later and this episode is upgraded with closed captions, I will update my rating.

UPDATE 2: Closed Captions have been fixed on this episode. I've re-purchased a season pass and, of course, the quality of this episode is consistent with that of the previous nine episodes. I thought about deleting this review once the CC problem was solved, but I'm leaving it up as a testament to Amazon customer care not only taking care of me but, I suspect, getting the newer version of this episode posted.

Thanks, Amazon!

It was definitely the best season.

Sarah's static personality finally came through. We saw a different side of her. It was great to see her in love and finally showing emotional interest in something other than her job. I think there was some foreshadowing that her love interest was involved but only at the second last episode because she had changed so much that the audience knew there'd be some sort of let down for her. I think the two bullets she gave her love at the end of the show was well done. It had to go that way. It was for what he had done to the "lost children" of Seattle and what he had done to her. It was perfect.

Kinnernan is a superb actor. I felt he brought another aspect of a complicated personality to the role. I think he carried it most of the time and got better and better. His character was great but I didn't think his love interest made a lot of sense. But it's minor.

The actress who played Bullet was awesome. She was believable and loveable. It was a beautiful job by Killernan when he fell of the wagon because of her death and his part in it. That was touching.

I think it was the best season. I wish it would go for at least another one. Maybe some smart network will take it over. I hope so.

BTW: I didn't think season 1 was as good as either 2 or 3. It drew my attention for the first few episodes, but dragged on and on about Rosie this and that.... and it all could've been over and done in 4-5 episodes. But I stayed with it and went onto season 2 and 3 ~ I'm glad I did.

Stellar acting, faster paced than Season 1 and 2
Verified purchase
I enjoyed Season One and Two, and actually find myself even more immersed in the 3rd season, the acting in this show is excellent. Holder is one of the best characters on TV, Linden too, they are so very real. The cinematography on this show deserves a mention as well, it's phenomenal.

This season involves a case Linden worked prior to the Larsen murder, it's face paced and will resolve in one season (so they have claimed) and I cannot wait for the finale.

If you are a new viewer you do not have to have seen season's one and two, you can start here. There is some continuity between the seasons, but nothing that would leave you confused and the case is unrelated to the first which deals with the murder of Rosie Larsen. I still recommend Seasons 1 and 2, the Larsen's are so amazing.

I highly recommend the show to anyone who loves good drama, police procedurals and great acting.

I give all the seasons a 5 star rating! You know how you get bored and feel like watching something but you don't know what? That's what happened when I clicked on The Killing Season 1. I thought, okay I know in the beginning of a new series that the acting is to great and the show might start off slow. NOT this series! It was excellent right from the beginning! I thought how can a show be able to keep me interested with only 1 murder mystery?! Well, It did! It ended up being a Killing marathon! Even my wife got into it! I highly recommend this show to everyone. The plot keeps you very involved. Sometimes, through out the seasons you root for the good guys. Sometimes you are with the bad guys. Sometimes you think you got it figured out. Not so! You don't have nothing figured out! Watch it and you'll see what I am talking about!

Superb Drama!

My adult daughter told me about "The Killing" and how excellent it is. I tend to be sensitive about this type of drama so when she gave me the plot synopsis I decided against it. Recently my husband and I chose to watch the first episode of Season 1 and I was completely enthralled by the level of acting that in my opinion is unparalleled on TV. Suffice it to say that we watched all three seasons within a couple of weeks and then found the last episodes on another site. Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnamon are stellar in their roles and the other characters are also expertly defined. There is absolutely a dark and morose theme throughout and there are several complex twists and turns than I did not anticipate, yet somehow I never stopped believing in "Linden and Holder". I would describe this series as powerful to the nth degree.
