What I love the most is howthe character development is structured, not only do we experience the main character grown on an emotional level, we get to experience it on a mathematical level as well. being a life long gamer, I love seeing the stats as well as just reading about them. Almost makes it like it's my character in a game. I have the kindle edition and I read it on my lunch hour as well as at night before I go to sleep so that I may discover the Mists in my dreams.
I am %86 done with the first book and I am very happy to see there are many more.
Kong does a great job building up the world, and the various characters in the story. I felt connected to Richter, the main character, who struggles with his new life, but uses strategy and tactics he learned from being a gamer to grow and survive.
Aleron also throws in a few references of the modern day, clichés, and references. This was cool... nicely done...
if you like Anime like Sword Art Online or Overlord and the like, and you like to feel the exhilaration of leveling up from games like Guild Wars, Black Desert Online or the classic D&D, you will enjoy this book. (FYI, I have read all 7 in this series in a week, and I cant wait for #8) ...

The main premise of the first book is this: A man (known through the series as Richter) gets dragged into a fantasy world called "The Land", which he had been playing in for some time as a full-immersion RPG. But he has to start all the way from level 1 again (albeit with a couple of pretty nice abilities (edit: originally incorrectly said skills)! - these books chronicle his personal growth, that of the characters he meets, and show how he influences the world around him.
Richter is not perfect, and does make mistakes, which the books explore at times. However, I would say this is an area the author could explore more deeply on occasions - while Richter learns, I'm not sure how much these experiences change him as a person. Some will say a couple of his skills make him rather overpowered - even after reading 6 books, for me the jury is still out on this, so even if a couple of the skills early on seem too powerful, or too convenient, please keep reading with an open mind.
The author also likes to introduce plot points and then not mention them again for several books. One plot point, first brought up in book 2, has not received any updates since (up to end of book 6). The titles of the books are a little confusing as well - some of them seem to bear no (or very little) resemblance to what actually happens in the book.
The books contain crude language, violence, real world references galore, and references to sex throughout (it gets more pronounced as the series goes on, but is not explicit). That being said, I would not recommend these books to children. In particular, there is one scene in book 3 that made me raise my eyebrows (you'll know it when you read it). The real world references, while funny now, have a real potential to make this series feel dated in a few years time, and can ruin the immersion for some. Personally, since Richter came from the real world, I don't mind it as much as I would if he was from a fantasy world, but your milage will vary. Please take the above points on board before purchasing.
In addition, this is a litrpg, which means the world runs on MMORPG rules - Richter (and all the other characters) have levels, characteristics to update, skills to upgrade etc, and for Richter this is normally shown on screen, in quite a lot of detail. I like the way the author has colour coded these - it makes the rarity of each item clear and helps these sections to stand out. If have never read litrpg before, please be aware this is a staple of the genre - if this bothers you, then the genre might not be for you.
But overall, I have enjoyed this series of books, and I am very much looking forward to book 7.

Anyone that likes the Elder Scrolls Games or a Dark Series where the M.C gets slowly more powerful and his actions and personality have both good and bad consequences will love this series.
In total I would give his Tier 1 storyline(Books 1-7) the full 5 stars and currently his Tier 2 storyline(Book 8-?) is 4 stars but hopefully than can become a 5 as well once Book 9 releases in October/November time. Rating 4.9/5
Gnomes Rule! - Mist Village Citizen

Game Engine 9/10; Settlement Building 10/10
First of all, The Chaos Seeds series (and I am covering books 1-7 inclusively in this review) follows the life of Richter, as he is offered a journey to a new world, where game mechanics are the will of the Land. lt's important to note that the game engine is both complex, and interesting; and as a person who enjoys data, and tables (although the kindle version of tables is a little bit unwieldy), Aleron Kong's work deeply satisfies my love of numbers, although I will accept that this is not always to everyone's taste. Furthermore, as a fan of settlement building (as is clearly shown in my Steam library), Richter's Mist Village feels like a living, breathing, and thriving community; so much so that I wish that The Land was an actual computer game. Each upgrade to the village adds something new, and wonderous, and I find myself anticipating each new village development. Near perfect score in those regards, although the formatting of the data tables, which don't scroll very well in the Kindle version, loses a point.
Characters 8/10
The broad demographic of the authors who write LitRPG novels means that the quality of the characters, and the way they interact with one another, varies massively, even within a series. Such is not the case with the personality, and interaction between Aleron Kong's characters; each character is fleshed-out, and consistently sets the bar high, with humorous, intelligent, and sometimes sorrowful relationships. Richter feels like the personality of Dr Aleron, and despite my general dislike of self-insert stories, I empathise with his liberal character, outlook, and goals; this is in stark contrast to a lot of the translated Russian LitRPG works, in which the protagonists are often depicted as strongly misogynistic, and hyper-masculine, which comes across as crass.
Power-wise, Richter has two unique, and (potentially) over-powered, abilities, although the scale of OP-ness only becomes apparent in later books. It doesn't, however, instantly negate any story developments; instead it allows for the inclusion of antagonists with a similar power-level, which makes the later books more perilous, with later choices having more devastating consequences.
As an important note, there currently isn't any overt sex in this series, although I'm sure that Puritanical readers would easily find something to protest against. Richter is single, young, and clearly liberal in his attitudes; and is part of a happy, thriving, hedonistic community (not a Harem fantasy though). So, if you find yourself upset at a rude word, oppose sex outside of marriage, think anything other than missionary is sinful, or dislike the idea of implied bisexuality, then perhaps this series isn't for you.
Story 7/10
Describing the strength of a series storyline is difficult without spoiling some details. An important aspect of The Chaos Seeds, much like RPGs in general, is that the difficulty scales with character level. In the first book, Richter isn't slaughtering goblins with a lazy smile, nor is he finding himself declared god-king by the time of the most recent book (Predators); whilst items he finds, or buys, become important only in later books, rather than appearing as deus ex machina. The story development pulls you along, and I, at least, find myself easily losing hours of my day eagerly devouring each chapter.
A weakness in this series, however, is to be found at the start of each book. Here, Dr Kong posts point of views of the malicious celestial beings, which clearly act as the ultimate antagonists of Richter. This weakens the story overall, as we ultimately know who Richter must oppose, and the scale of development that Richter must undergo in order to compete with their skill-set. Had Dr Kong not included these POVs, the story would develop with a far more daunting, and malevolent atmosphere, as the significance of the Land is revealed to both Richter, and us, the reader.
Overall 8.5/10 or 4.25/5 stars
Chaos Seeds is an excellent series, and a great addition to any fantasy library. Clearly not on the same level as 'classic fantasy', like Lord of the Rings, but it is still an impressive series with great re-readability. That I'm moved to write a review, having never written one for the hundreds of fantasy works I've read, can attest to my high opinion of this series. I can only hope that you find yourself enjoying this series as much as I do.

The characters are really relatable and developing nicely, the complex world is exciting and engaging...plenty of humour too. I find myself smiling with glee throughout...excited by the story, the writing, and just to be on this journey.
This is the first book I’ve read by Aleron Kong....you’ve definitely acquired a new fan girl. Your writing is excellent, good editing...all I can give is praise.
Onto book 2 now......eeeehhh! Can’t wait!

Edit: I only ever write one review on a book, as I recognise my review as a review for the entire series. The latest book caused me to change the rating of my review from 5 to 3, as the author was just lazy with his latest book and took his fans for granted in my opinion. I hope he can rekindle the passion that he had in his previous works and once again create the masterpiece that he is more than capable of writing. If he does, then I will update this review to reflect that change.
