With The Look of Love, best-selling author Bella Andre introduces you to a fun and emotional contemporary romance series about the Sullivan family. Because when a Sullivan bad boy falls...he falls hard. And it's forever.
Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she's convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?
As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he's home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is - until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love-and protect-her, but will she let him?
Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her - and every sinfully sweet caress - as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can't help but wonder if she's met the only exception. And although Chase didn't realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn't the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he's gearing up for a different fight altogether - for Chloe's heart.

"Attractive was a paltry word for a man like this. Even in the dark, she could see that he put other men to shame. Even in the cold rain with his hair and clothes plastered to his skin and several streaks of mud across his cheekbones, he was utterly gorgeous."
Chase is a photographer and is at his brother's estate for a photo shoot so he asks Chloe to stay and watch while he works. It isn't long before Chase's crew and his brother Marcus notice the tension between them. Chloe doesn't trust herself enough to let Chase get close to her emotionally, even after going out of his way to be honorable, so she finally gives in to her physical attraction to him instead. But the heat of their passion only increases with every moment they spend together and she feels herself becoming more and more dependent on his touch and his presence. She had told herself after leaving her ex that she would become an independent woman and stand up on her own two feet. But will it mean giving up her independence to explore a relationship with Chase or will it make her a stronger person to become part of his life?
"Chase Sullivan hadn't realized that tonight his life was going to change forever. But it just had. And, amazingly--shockingly--he wasn't the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he was gearing up for a different fight altogether. The fight for Chloe's heart."
Chase Sullivan was headed to his brother's wine estate guesthouse while on the way back from their mother's birthday party when he notices a car sitting precariously in the ditch. Then he sees a woman standing out on the edge of the road in the downpour. He knows from the moment he starts talking to her that this woman has been hurt before. Having two sisters of his own, he realizes he needs to be gentle and honest with her when he tries to help her to safety. Chase knows his brother's estate is closer than any motel and that Marcus would insist that Chase bring her there to dry off and call a wrecker. Once he explains the situation and she calms down, he can tell she's not used to being treated nicely or honorably. And he can also see the bruise on the side of Chloe's face. It brings out a fierce protectiveness in him that he's never felt before and he can't believe how strong his reactions are to this woman he just met.
Chloe doesn't want to open up about her past or what she's running from. Chase understands that she needs to trust him first and he sets out to prove to her that he will never hurt her. He takes every opportunity to make sure she's comfortable and taken care of while she stays at the estate recuperating. He even helps her gain some self-confidence back when he has her help out behind the scenes at the photo sessions. With every small victory she has, Chase falls further in love with Chloe. He can tell it's happening too fast but he also knows what he feels is genuine. Only he's not sure if she can handle hearing about the depth of his feelings for her until she moves past whatever it is she's hiding. Once she finally allows him to get closer to her, Chase knows then he can win her heart.
Bella Andre has written an absolutely heartwarming story that made me want to sigh and cry happy tears. My heart went out to Chloe for everything she's been through in her relationship with her ex. Chase is exactly the kind of guy she deserves to find a HEA with: he's protective, sexy, honest, will treat her like a princess, sexy (did I mention that already?) and loyal. His mama certainly raised him right. I loved their dialogue back and forth, both in their moments of raw honesty and in their flirtatious conversations. Bella also did a great job with the love scenes. There is just enough heat to keep it steamy but it is also fun and romantic. I can't wait to start book two in The Sullivans series.
Whenever I read a whirlwind romance like this I always find myself asking the same questions. How could you decide to spend the rest of your life with a man not knowing what side of the bed he sleeps on? If he prefers Coke or Pepsi? If he can put up with you re-watching Friends or Gilmore Girls for the 15th time and have the ability to reserve judgement?! You know…the important things in life. However, what this novel does so well is it manages to show our lead characters what is truly important to the other, and that is what makes them fall in love so quickly. Yes, there is an obvious physical attraction, but it really goes beyond that.
He comes upon her stranded on the side of the road with a bruise on the side of her face. In four days time he’s willing to protect her, yet also admit that she’s more than capable of taking care of herself with her own personal strength and determination of spirit. They both have creative passions, and are supportive of the other doing whatever is needed to make those passions grow, helping whenever possible along the way. His dedication to his large family is especially noteworthy, not to mention the fact he captures the real her behind his camera lens. Again, for such a short timeframe, you can see how they got to know who the other person truly was without superfluous details getting in the way. It’s the basic foundation of their relationship, and everything else is just the whipped cream on top.
There was one aspect of their relationship that brought them together which I did find kind of funny. Not necessarily bad, but just something I thought was worth mentioning. Chase is a man of no commitment and one-night stands. He’s had countless women come in and out of his bed, but when he sets his sights on Chloe he knows almost immediately that there’s something different about her. This is one of the things that makes him pursue her so relentlessly without giving up.
And on the flip side, it is because Chase has never had a long term relationship that Chloe knows she can believe him when he says things are different with her, and when he says he loves her it’s definitely true since he’s never uttered those words before. It’s almost like he’s being…rewarded(?) for being a womanizer! I couldn’t help but wonder if his romantic past had been different, if he’d had let’s say just two serious long term monogamous relationships in his adult life, would she have taken his declarations of love less seriously? Would she have even stuck around for four whole days to see if what they had was real? Again, just an interesting little side note.

I'm not a reader of romance as a general rule, and I don't read erotic romance. Reading this book has made me realise why.
BLURB
After Chloe Peterson's car skids off the road in the Napa Valley wine country, she's ready to throw in the towel on a horrendous day. But when a gorgeous guy rescues her, though she’s immediately drawn to him, she knows better than to let her walls down with any man ever again. Chase Sullivan is a successful photographer whose charm and charisma—along with his large and close-knit family—make him San Francisco's most eligible bachelor. Intent on helping Chloe through this rough patch in her life, Chase soon realizes that she is not only lovely, inside and out, she’s also intelligent, talented, and extremely brave. He has never felt like this about anyone before, never knew love could be so powerful, or so true…until she came into his life. Though Chloe tries to resist Chase, with every loving look he gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—the attraction between them sparks and sizzles. But after everything she's been through, can Chase convince Chloe that he will always be there for her...and that their love will last forever?
STORY
The story is weak and just an excuse for erotic scenes. I had trouble finishing it.
A troubled young woman meets a handsome man and tries to deny the obvious attraction between them. She is not ready for a new romance after her disastrous marriage. I don't think that Ms Andre made enough of this. Chloe gave in far too quickly. Only a few days after her last traumatic encounter with her ex-husband she is in bed with a new man. Not very believable.
The story is told from the point of view of each of the main characters in in turn.
CHARACTERS
Chloe has problems. This makes her vulnerable. I did think that she got over them in rather quick time, though. Only a few days after meeting Chase she is admitting her attraction to him, sleeping with him, and falling in love. It all seemed a little too quick for someone so deeply wounded as Chloe is from her previous love encounter. (Or rather, not love from her spouse.)
Chase, is rather a cardboard cut out. He's perfect. Good looking, clever, rich, talented. He is infinitely patient with Chloe, always putting her first, especially in sex, because he knows she's been deeply hurt. In spite of wanting to have sex with her desperately, he manages to hold back.
Like I said. Too perfect.
WRITING
Sadly, I found the writing annoying. Ms Andre overuses the word 'just', as one example. She peppers it throughout the book, even more than once in one sentence on occasion. She also uses many other words that are not needed, and slow the action. (What action?)
Also, vague words, like 'seemed'. Well is it or isn't it?
She kept on telling us that Chloe was lovely, and that Chase had a beautiful body. We aren't stupid, Ms Andre. We can remember that. We don't need to keep being reminded.

On his way to his brother’s winery for a photo shoot, Chase sees a car that has skidded off the road and stops to help. He’s instantly taken by Chloe and convinces her to come with him to the winery and stay in the guest house for the night. Chloe trying to get far away from her abusive ex-husband. She has no money, and even though she doesn’t know anything about Chase and is wary, she’s pretty desperate and needs a little help and luckily Chase persuades her to come to his brother’s winery rather than making him take her to a cheap motel.
This was overall a nice light read, the story a gentle one, did I want a little more energy and zest yes, but it made for a relaxing and easy read, even if I wasn’t wholly absorbed.
Layers to the characters were needed, and depth and a sense of realistic progression to Chase and Chole’s relationship, especially given what Chloe had gone through within her previous relationship. Her wariness subsides a tad too quickly.
One big issue I had with the ending was the fact Chole’s ex doesn’t really get his just desserts, ok so Chase gets a few punches in but I wanted the douche to be taken away in handcuffs to spend time in a cell.

This is a beautiful romantic read, the characters are good and the whole Sullivan clan will get their own books and I loved the bits we see of them but the strength of this book is partly in the relationship between Chloe and Chase but mainly in Chloe herself, we see her develop and grow into the person she really is, she gains confidence and respect in herself.
The next book belongs to Marcus and it sounds interesting.

I was bored with this book. Where the heck was the plot? I don’t mind sex scenes in books when and where necessary, but like others have stated, though, less is more if you have a good plot.
This story really just fell flat with characters who didn’t care about personal growth. Chloe is trying to distance herself from an abusive ex husband, so what does she do? She jumps straight into a sex fuelled relationship with another man. A man who doesn’t seem to be honourable enough to give Chloe space to heal and find her place in life. Though Chase did seem like a decent enough guy.
If sex scene after sex scene is all you’re looking for in a book then you have found it. This reader is looking for something with less flash and more substance.
