"The Mindy Project" is a biting new single-camera comedy from Emmy Award-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling ("The Office") that follows a woman who, despite having a successful career, is unlucky in love and desperately needs to get her personal life back on track before her friends and colleagues are forced to stage an intervention. Funny, impatient and politically incorrect, Mindy Lahiri (Kaling) can quote every romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan that exists. She loves the good ones and the bad ones, because the girl always gets the guy. Mindy is determined to be more punctual, spend less money, lose weight and read more books -- all in pursuit of becoming a well-rounded perfect woman... who can meet and date the perfect guy.

If Your Looking For Kelly Kapour From The Office...FORGET IT!
Verified purchase
Not very good for 2 specific reasons: 1. Mindy Kaling doesn't understand self-deprecation - which is the main ingredient for any good comedic actor. She spends so much time trying to convince us that she's "every woman," that she never stops to realize we just aren't buying it. Her character dates and sleeps with a string of guys (who all confusingly want only her even though there are clearly hotter girls in the room), then whines through each episode that she can't find "Mr. Right," and we, the audience, are supposed to believe that that's true? Mindy should have allowed her character to have a hard time getting a date, for superficial reasons such as weight, race, beliefs, etc., which would have endeared us to her, carried a ring of truth, and made her alot funnier. 2. Apparently Mindy didn't learn from her time on The Office that, if you give the supporting cast rich personalities, it only enhances the main character and attacts more viewers to your show. The old "there's-someone/thing-for-everyone" principal. Mindy has surrounded herself with bland, one note players, to enhance her "stardom" and it fails miserably. Most likely because it's a testament that Mindy kaling cannot carry an entire show by herself. She's just not that interesting. Notice, Steve Carrell followed both of these guidelines on The Office. (The Office's Kelly Kapour was 10 times funnier, but also didn't have to carry an entire show on her own. Even so, I would much rather watch "The Kelly Kapour Show" over this). If you don't believe me, after you watch the season, go back and just watch the last 5 minutes or so of season 1. Mindy has just cut off all her hair into a dreadful Demi Moore cut, and is wearing glasses which gives her an adorable, nerdy, pixie look, and is feeling very self-conscious while sitting on the couch in the employee lounge with her co-worker - whom she's had a mini-crush on all season. She even has her feet tucked under her on the couch for extra effect. Their brief back and forth is very good and honest. It's like she's pulling out a new character that is way different than the character she stuffed down our throats all season. You'll say to yourself, "This is what the show should have been all season!" Unfortunately, it's the last scene of the season 1 finale. Anyone recommend season 2? Does it get any better? Please let me know.

Very Sweet & Very Funny
Verified purchase
The first few episodes are a bit rough, as the show is finding itself, but once it hits stride The Mindy Project is--for me--one of the funniest and most sweetly endearing shows that I have ever come across. It's not just a sitcom, it's a serialized romantic comedy for television, and the core cast of characters is fantastic in their individual quirks and their chemistry with each other. This show has some of the best, most consistently funny lines of dialogue that I have ever encountered on TV. The writing, acting and editing combine fantastically. But even as wacky as it can get, the show has great heart. Mindy Kaling really impresses here--she embodies the personality of her character well and is very game for physical comedy. If you are looking for a show that just feels good, this fits the bill.

I wasn't so sure I would like it but said I'd give it a try

OK I admit it. I was never a big fan of The Office. It just wasn't really my type of humor. (I know, what? Sorry all you Office fans) So when my niece told me to watch Mindy, I wasn't so sure I would like it but said I'd give it a try. I can't tell you how many times I have thanked her for turning me onto this incredibly funny show. I have loved every episode and probably watched most of them, ok, all of them, more than once. They are just so funny and sometimes you are so busy laughing at one thing, that you can't even hear the next funny thing and you have to watch it again, because you miss something else! It's that funny! Mindy Kaling is amazing, Chris Messina, fantastic (and easy on the eyes) and the rest of the cast is great too. I love all the celebrity guest spots too. So well written. Just pure enjoyment!

Hilariously Smart.

Mindy Kaling is not afraid to be a funny girl...and I love it! This show pokes fun at "true" girl life, but does it in such a way that it feels....um...awesome? "The Mindy Project" is probably one of the wittiest shows on television today. If you love humor in the style of Tina Fey, if you liked "Bridesmaids," and if you thought Kelly Kapoore was even remotely funny on "The Office", you will enjoy "The Mindy Project."

Best smart girl comedy show
Verified purchase
Mindy rules! And I love love love Chris Messina and Mark Duplass- my Fav guys right now....smart, funny, goofy, nerdy, quirky, and really damn sexy. In fact, those are the words I'd use to describe this show.

I have Mindy up on my comedy pedestal right now for assembling this awesome cast, and for being smart, funny, and adorably adorable. You are an awesome role model for women in this business, AND have put forth a leading romantic female role that is smart, goofy, curvy to chubby (depending on the day), definately NOT the typical size 0 white girl we usually see in these roles- and I LOVE it!!! You are gorgeous, and show that gorgeous comes in all shades. You are sexy, and show that sexy comes in different sizes. And you are smart, and show that you can be smart while also fun & feminine. Thank you thank you! Love the show!

Didn't think I would like this show so much...it's great!

I am a fan of The Office, but didn't think I would enjoy this show so much...I figured it was probably geared to younger women (late teens, twenties), and I am 50-ish. But it's very entertaining and my husband and I both enjoy it! The Mindy character is shallow like Kelly Kippur (sp?) in The Office, but still somewhat believably plays a physician (okay, so it's a sitcom). The show is about evenly split between her office life and interaction with her fellow doctors and staff (including some nice sexual tension between her and Danny Castellano, another doctor) and her personal and romantic life outside of the office.

It's perfect light entertainment with enough character development that many of the regulars have grown on me, keeping me interested in seeing what happens next.

mindy kaling goes there... and several steps further
Verified purchase
the best punch lines are spoken softly on this show - you have to listen for them. story lines can be a bit wacky but seem to come together. mindy character has a mature adolescence thing going on - like most 30-somethings you'd want to know. she reminds me of my sister - very successful woman in charge of multi-million dollar contracts for a fortune 100 company but then lets loose on the dance floor and owns a bunch of tokki-dokki knick-knacks along with a closet full of clothing from every color of the 64 count crayola box.

i personally love this show for kaling and the talented (and yummy) chris messina. looking forward to many more seasons.

The show is smart, funny and well-written. Besides, Mindy (both Lahiri on screen and Kaling in real life) is my style icon, and Chris Messina is the sexiest thing on two legs.
