Ending was EXTREMELY Disappointing!
Verified purchase
Watched season 1. Good series but slow moving at times - have to watch an entire episode to pick up ONE clue. In this instance, the journey was much more satisfying than the final destiny. The ending was EXTREMELY disappointing because in reality, there is no ending or conclusion to season 1. You watch the entire season and at the end, you still have no idea what happened to the boy. The entire season is just one HUGE distraction (e.g., the sex-traffic angle) from the underlying reality of how the boy initially disappeared. Key clues and facts are NEVER revealed to the viewer; therefore, it is virtually impossible to decipher how the boy was originally lost/abducted and to reiterate, even at the end, we still have no idea what really happened, if the boy is even alive, or where he is now living. The final few minutes of the last episode are rushed and we are left with an array of innuendos, inferences, and speculations; ultimately, this is one of these series where the viewer is left holding the bag, having to GUESS what may or may not have happened. Good acting and strong characters but in the end, what a disappointment.

Slow-moving Crime Drama
Verified purchase
It was a long drawn out season of episodes. The acting was superb, very professional & believable. The viewer follows a long trail of exceptional police work to solve the disappearance of a couple's young son. The older detective has staying power and never gives up. I didn't like the way the movie went back & forth from the past to the future, constantly. I grew so weary of it taking so long to solve the crime that I skipped two episodes & also read an in-depth review from someone else, who explained & cleared up a lot that needed explaining. I don't know how this film can be called Season 1, for I don't know how a Season 2 could pick up & go on, after the crime was solved.

Suspenseful and Well Acted Mystery/Drama
Verified purchase
My gosh, this was heart-wrenching and captivating at the same time. All the characters were excellently developed and the acting was great. It's certainly one of those stories that made me ask "what would I do in the situation?" The parents have very different reactions and I can sympathize with both of them. Two members of my family are police and when I talked about this movie, especially the ending, they both agreed that it is not an unusual conclusion. I was surprised by the final reveal of what happened to Oliver. If you can take a lot of tension and a lot of Flash Backs (too many in my opinion) and you don't mind shedding some tears, this is a movie for you.

Tcheky Karyo is the sexiest man you've never heard of - yet.

I don't see why James Nesbitt is getting top billing on this. Tcheky Karyo is the main star and deserves more press and accolades. He does a great job with this character. He's also the only thread between season 1 and season 2. They really need him to continue to have a thread going between seasons. And..... he's HOT. You can build up a really dedicated female viewership if you keep him in the show. More Tcheky!!!!!

The Missing — An Excellent Series
Verified purchase
Fabulous acting by all. The series is full of suspense, with a surprise climax. Nesbitt's resilience (father) is like a dog with a bone. He continually gnaws on the, police, politicians and townspeople's nerves concerning his missing son. Karyo’s character, as the retired inspector, shows tact, courage, and the ability to simmer the raging impatience in Nesbitt. O’Connor, the mother, revealed her internalizing intense suffering for their son, Oliver.

Compelling, beautifully told and acted

My wife and I stumbled upon this series and was immediately hooked. Given the nature of the content, I can't imagine being able to handle more than 8 episodes. Unlike some, I won't divulge the ending but it is exactly in line with the series. Excellent!

This entire viewing experience was just like reading a book that you could not put down
Verified purchase
It is a rare experience when you really cannot guess the ending , or at least get close, about mid way through the season. . This entire viewing experience was just like reading a book that you could not put down. The acting was superb. James Nesbitt was incredible in every scene. I highly recommend this show. What a treat!

Great...until the last episode
Verified purchase
As good as the rest of the series is, I was so disappointed when it crashed and burned in the last episode. It’s as if it was a different series: it lagged (even considering the subject matter), and all the intrigue up to that point felt tossed out for another story line. If you like dark drama, I’d say go for it....but, honestly, it probably holds up better without seeing the end.
