Enjoyed the show - it has some fine moments and outstanding setting and costumes. Also, I’m thankful that it’s in Swedish. Dubbing is for people who can’t read.
The story turns on three siblings: the brut, the saint, and the naïf. But the brut is grossly overplayed, the saint implausibly dishonest, and the naïf implausibly stupid. The mom is magnificent, as are several striving members of the kitchen staff, including the single mom union organizer. But the foundation is the family and the characters don’t hold up. Again and again they do things that are inconsistent with who they appear to be. We all do, of course, but there are boundaries. People who are high integrity in one episode should not be randomly made out to be cheats in the next. Someone who is frightened one week is brave in a worse situation the next. Some of this comes with the territory, but I found this distracting.
Also, I don’t like subscriptions within subscriptions. I pay for Prime. I’d pay for a good show. But I don’t want a recurring monthly fee for a tv show because they are betting I’ll forget about the subscription. A bad look for Amazon.
