A rich cast of characters and an explosive plot kept me turning the pages until the final dramatic twist.
Fifty years ago a family of four is brutally gunned down in the snow. One child survives and then just disappears from hospital. The killer is never found and is nicknamed The Snow Killer. Suddenly, fifty years later, a series of murders also take place in the snow. DI Barton and his team start to investigate. He is a family man and a good honest policeman whose team strives to find even the smallest of clues left at any of the scenes. The story is told from the perspective of DI Barton and also from that of the killer, and consequently another chapter is always begging to be read. There are plenty of clues, plenty of twists and finally an ending that is so totally unexpected. All in all a brilliant and skilfully written book.
Ross pulls it out of the bag with this fantastic book. It’s his first in the series featuring Detective John Barton and it’s set in Peterborough.
I don’t like to give away story lines in my reviews but I’ll say this... it keeps you hooked from page 1, right to the end. The storyline is fast paced and full of twists and turns.
The book is well written, with endearing characters and will leave you wanting to read more about DI Barton and his team....
and there is more to come in this series so it won’t be long before you find out what he’s up to next! Well done Ross :)
The storyline follows two timelines- 50 years ago and the present. 50 years ago a London hitman and his family were executed in their new county of Norfolk. However, one family member survived and was hell bent on revenge, which is successful. Cut to the present and similar killings begin again as the revenge killings.
Barton is in charge of the investigation, assisted by D.S. Strange and his friend, Zander. Fairly interesting characters.
The author throws plenty of realism into the mix- drugs, gangs, puzzling clues etc and there’s a terrific twist that I certainly didn’t see coming. I found the ending a little forced and I drop a star for that.
