4.0 out of 5 stars Cancer didn't define her but LOVE did
By Love Life on October 1, 2021
The Wish by Nicholas Sparks is not the love story I expected. The characters are very appropriate for the setting and the story itself. Maggie is the main character and has your heart from the very beginning. Maggie is a well known photographer and owns an art gallery. She hires a nice man named Mark to help her in the gallery. Her health is failing but her heart is very much alive.
I really loved this book because it helped me understand the struggle my cousin must be going through in her cancer battle. It also helped me to reflect on my life and the struggles this past year. After reading this in one day until the end, I felt a deep appreciation to Mr. Sparks. Thank you for sharing this story in a real way.
This is not the love story with a perfect ending, but an ending that's perfect for this story. It's based on the raw reality of a cancer diagnosis and also the many complexities of life. Maggie deals with the expectations of her parents wanting more for her life other than being a single woman and never married. This is often draining. She remembers the love they have for her even. Dealing with the relationship of being adopted, Maggie also tells her Mom that she didn't expect to have the love story ending with her first boyfriend Bryce. Maggie tells her Mom that she found her happy ending with her. This melted my heart!!!! Your happy ending can be what makes you happy! Yes!! Finally an author that is out of the box. Your happy ending can be with yourself too! Or with your cat, dog or other animal. Love stories come in all shapes and sizes, right? Thank you Mr. Sparks.
I was happy to see that she was able to be saved by love. Maggie explained that love is stronger than fear, as many others may say. Maggie said that love saved her at the end. When I finished this book I had to just think about all that I had read. I also feel like she felt very grateful too.
The Wish gets 4 out of 5 stars. It made me think about the many people in this World that are suffering because of loneliness or health issues. Share the one thing that can cure fear is love. The message I took away from this book is to share the love. This is a well written love story for this time. It's not fruity or fluffy. Probably a not a good read for someone that is looking for the typical love story.
