The Witch's Kind Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
An absorbing tale of love, sacrifice, family ties, and magic, set in the Pacific Northwest in the aftermath of World War II, by the author of A Secret History of Witches.
Barrie Anne Blythe and her aunt Charlotte have always known that the other residents of their small coastal community find them peculiar - two women living alone on the outskirts of town. It is the price of concealing their strange and dangerous family secret.
But two events threaten to upend their lives forever. The first is the arrival of a mysterious abandoned baby with a hint of power like their own. The second is the sudden reappearance of Barrie Anne's long-lost husband - who is not quite the man she thought she married.
Together, Barrie Anne and Charlotte must decide how far they are willing to go to protect themselves - and the child they think of as their own - from suspicious neighbors, the government, and even their own family....

She always makes her characters extremely likable. Louisa Morgan's ability to provide colorful visual descriptions is a type of magic in it's own. This novel focused less directly on witchcraft (in comparison to The Secret History of Witches) but as a witch myself, it definitely resonated with the every day magic that we're exposed to.
It was a bit slow in a few areas of the book but it didn't make the book unenjoyable. I can't wait to see what else she puts out. I recommend this book as well as her first book!
This was a lovely story and enjoyable read. The story revolves around Barrie Anne, her aunt Charlotte and the abandon baby that they rescue. Each of the women must reach inside to find the strength to overcome the challenges they face.
The description of people, nature and animals really draws you in and allows you to see the story. The main characters were well developed, however I would have liked to learn a bit more about some of the other characters.
Although I did enjoy the book, I was a bit disappointed there wasn't more of a witch theme that the title promised, however I look forward to reading more from this author.
I only wish there would be a sequal to see how they deal with Emerald's special gifts as sheet grows older.
The main character is beyond clueless, with the mentality of a 3rd grader having her first crush, not only in life, but in what love is, or her own family history. We learn no more in the end than when we began the book. The "chain smoking Aunt," and the constant needlessly long, descriptions of irrelevance fill the pages, and drags us along to predictable conclusions, and the back and forth in time, all within a few years, is constantly giving away what we already know happened. Whoever wrote the beginning for this book, must have left the remainder to a clueless child to finish. Don't waste your money. Unfortunately I bought two by this same authors in this last order. If the second one is as awful, I'll never read anything she writes again. No woman, witch or otherwise would tolerate this abuse, or be this "simple minded." What magic? I'd settle for common sense and a storyline. Don't waste your time or money.

However, this book arrived damaged as you can see by the attached video. Having once worked for a book binding company, this does happen in the feeding of the pages. However, all books are usually checked and this one shouldn’t have gone out to be sold. It’s damaged inside and as I love my books and keep them to read over and over again, it was very disappointing to find the damage. Therefore have removed one star.
