Original story plot, that was nice, and the transition from a normal setting to the solving of the mystery was solid and seamless (rare nowadays). However, if you're going to start a new series, even if it's a break off from another series, still develop the actual characters personalities and give some back history to introduce said characters instead of continually referencing something in another book and series. I picked this book to read, not the other, and because of this lack in character development, I don't know if I have enough connection the protagonist to want to go "look it up". That was disappointing. Not sure if I'll be going forward with this series. We'll see.

I enjoy Ms. Cassidy's writing but this was a rare miss for me. I haven't read the book that introduced these characters and felt like I was thrown into the middle of the story without the necessary background. I think readers who are familiar with the demon (Coop) probably felt more kindly towards her, but I simply thought she was annoying. Same with the owl. I never figured out why the lead, Trixie, is so devoted to either of them.

It's too bad because the setting and premise are fun and the writing is good. I only made it halfway through the book, however, so maybe there was more character development and explanation later.

A paranormal cozy mystery spinoff, this is the first in a series
A former nun and a demon open a tattoo parlor but when their landlord ends up dead in their new shop, it’s time for the detective hats to come out and solve The Who-done-it.
It’s an irreverent and often funny read that is entertaining. In a G rated version which is unusual for this author.
Trixie, the nun, is on a mission. Mostly just to support herself and her demon, but also now to solves murder mysteries and help friends and neighbors. Much of her language is straight from the most cliched stereo types but she is well meaning and loving so forgivable.
Coop, the demon, trying hard to fit into society is adorable.

A great start to a cozy mystery series. I look forward to the growing character base and finding out who the next one is to die and why the animals are talking.

I fell in love with Dakota Cassidy after reading the very first book in the “Accidentals” series. Her writing has you laughing out loud as you cheer on your favorite characters. She also keeps you guessing until the very end with imaginative twists and turns. In her newest series the “Nun of Your Business Mysteries” Dakota once again delivers with her trademark wit mixed with a little snark and a whole lot of entertainment. We are introduced to Trixie Lavender who is an excommunicated nun who just happens to be possessed. Coop is an escaped demon from Hell (one of Satan’s favs) and a wickedly talented tattoo artist. The two decide to settle in Portland, Oregon and rent a space to open Inkerbelle’s tattoo and piercings shop. Before they can even repair the damaged and run down space, let alone consider opening, they have their first employee, Knuckles. Things are starting to fall in to place until their landlord is found dead in their store. Trixie sets out to find the killer, which is more than a little difficult given her lack of detective skills and knowledge of the people around her. Dakota writes each book in a series as a stand alone story that also contains parts of an even larger story arc running throughout the series. This series seems to fall on the rated G/PG scale. I am looking forward to getting to know this new group and following Trixie and Coop in to their next adventure

The first book in a new series I will definitely want to follow and can't wait for book two to come out! I never laughed so hard throughout the entire book. The main character, Sister Trixie Lavender and her demon in a human body, Coop are the most unlikely pair to be bonded together. Possessed, Sister Trixie has left the convent (she was excommunicated) when escaped demon, incredible tattoo artist, Coop saved her life. With Coop's snarky talking owl, Livingston, Trixie and Coop head for a small town in Oregon to open a Tattoo shop and make a living. Coop is a fast learner of all things earthly, but she still has so much to learn. She is also ready to fly off the handle in anger if anyone hurts Trixie. This duo meets Knuckles another tattoo artist who Coop and Trixie have taken a real like to and Higgs the owner and operator of a homeless shelter with his best friend Jay, and of course their landlord who tries to take advantage of Trixie and Coop until Coop with all her unearthly strength gets him to lower their rent on the run down building they want for their shop. But then of course we have a murder and non other than the landlord. Trixie and Coop have alibis so they are not suspects, but there are so many suspects since Crowley was hated all up and down the block. So in order to get back into their shop, they decide to try to solve the murder themselves, so you have bumbling, naive Trixie and Coop who is still trying to learn what a smile is! We first see these characters in one of the author's Witchless in Seattle books, so this is a type of spin-off of two of the most hysterical characters, with Knuckles and Higgs as great subcharacters. I can't wait to read more! I so enjoyed the twists and turns in this mystery as well as a red-herring and surprise ending!

A good read but I must admit that at 79% of the page count I was glad that I hadn't paid for this. Really feel a bit short changed when I do and it's so much shorter than I expected. A plot revolving around an ex-nun, a demon in human form and one that has taken over the body of an owl. After being kicked out of her order for her behaviour (she was demon possessed) she and her two companions are looking to find a home and set up a business. Loved the way the nuances of being human are so hard to explain. However their dream seems to have crashed and burned as their new landlord has been murdered on their new premises. Add in a homeless shelter, gangs, a former undercover cop, money laundering and revenge. Can they find the real killer? Will the community accept her and her two companions?
Although I loved the characters, especially Coop, I couldn't understand why her demon didn't take action when she was under attack!

Let's get the obvious out of the way; this is a whodunit with enough red herrings to open a fishmongery. It has a great plot, plenty of humour, a touch of snark and it flows really well.
However, it's the sub tones that distinguish this book. This is a book about redemption, forgiveness, love, understanding and of finding your own place in the world. Everyone, not just Trixie, needs a Knuckles, a Coop and a Dolores in their life, and a place to call home. And that, my friends, is why this book comes highly recommended.

Too much rambling

This might have got a 3, but there was too much unnecessary rambling and repetition about previous events especially in the first half. Page after page of Trixie being indecisive, or recurrent attempts to explain Coop's abnormal behaviour or interaction with people.

I enjoyed the story and characters but got a bit lost with the over punctuation. 5 commas in a sentence had me reading several times to make sense. 1 sentence to the end of the book had 2 words but still managed to fit a comma in. Still enjoyed though.
