A huge part of the angst was all the other woman the H was romantically involved with. It was a major turn off for the H to have chosen other woman over the h so many times. So after 10 years of the hero hurting and leaving the h, marrying other woman, shoving other woman in the h face...I missed his apology. Not once in the book. If there is a H fighting to get a h back after a royal mess up, SAY you’re sorry!!!! ***spoiler*** what was equally annoying was how the entire book the H kept saying he would not leave the h again even if she pushed him away because he knew that was what she did because she was scared due to all the times he had hurt her. So around 85% guess what happens...again. She pushes him away...annnd he leaves her...again. Sooo...not really sure these people will survive their HEA in my fictional world of characters.
So the reason for the two stars was really for the constant drama. I think the author missed an opportunity to delve deeper into conversations of hurt and betrayal. I would have rather heard more of that than the non-stop drama. I would have also liked to have heard and seen more remorse from the H. I think it was a jerk move to bring the ex girlfriend to the h’s house after the h offered an olive branch. He did apologize for that or all the million reasons he hurt her. He just seemed like he gave up too easily in the past and also in this book.
Having said all of that I will say that the book was well written. Despite the H’s lack of verbal grovel, he did do some heart melting things. The story was also engaging and kept me reading. As stated above, my issues with the story were more personal peeves than an issue with the quality of writing of the author.
This book scared me to death... I mean, come on, Tarryn Fisher is known as crazy and unpredictable, so I was VERY worried for the fate of her characters and I had no idea how the book would end.
'Thief' is written from Caleb's point of view. The plot continues the second book, which ends with Leah's crazy discovery.
Caleb is determined to win the girl who broke his heart - and he doesn't care about the consequences...
They haven't met in months, but like in the previous books - they always find their way to each other and always leave a trail of destruction and heartbreak behind them. If you ask me? It's not a novel... it's a TRAGEDY!!!
“𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆.”
Tarryn has done an amazing job of explaining Caleb's actions in the past. In my opinion, the choice to end the series from Caleb's point of view was ingenious, because I definitely wanted to know what drew him to Olivia or Leah in the first place ...
Caleb's perspective also changed everything I thought I knew about the plot and everything I read in the previous two books! If I liked Caleb, after this book, I absolutely LOVE HIM !!!
His feelings are so strong and powerful. He knows exactly what he wants and he doesn't give up - so how can you not fall in love with him???
”𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍.”
However, in my opinion the first book was most surprising, but this book was definitely over too quickly for my liking...
So if you love original and unexpected love stories, you have to read this series!!!

So if you love original and unexpected love stories, you have to read this series!!!

I’ve literally been sitting here staring at my keyboard and trying to think of what to say to properly express my thoughts about this book. I just can’t do it. I was ripped apart and then put back together.
Caleb and Olivia had one hell of a story. Two people shouldn’t have to go through so much heartbreak, drama, and flat out bullshit just to be together. I appreciated the continued use of the present and past views in this book. It was able to fill in some things that I had questions about from the last book. It also continued to add an amazing sense of suspense and intrigue to the story. There was a point when I was nearing the end of the book that my heart was pounding. You could practically picture the climax of the story approaching, the pacing of the book picked up, and then all hell broke loose.
That tiny amount of sympathy that I had for Leah in Dirty Red? Yeah, that went straight out the window in this book. I can see how why everyone hates her. You can add me to that list now. I got a great deal of satisfaction with one certain interaction between Leah and Olivia.
In the end, I was happy with the way the story turned out and how everything came together. I just feel bad that the journey was so long and painful for Caleb and Olivia.

"Life does not accommodate you, it shatters you. Love is mean, but it's good. It keeps us alive. If you need her, then wait. But, right now she's getting married. It's her day and you can't ruin it."
Being inside Caleb's head finally was the best thing. Ever. There were so many times whilst reading The Opportunist and Dirty Red that I wanted to know why Caleb had reacted a certain way or why he couldn't just run away with Olivia and have the HAE they so desperately deserved. Throughout the series there had been so many twists and turns that I knew if there was any chance of a HAE that Tarryn would make us (and Caleb!) work for it. And boy did she.
"Olivia. I've lost her three times. The first was to impatience. The second was to a lie so dense we couldn't work our way through it, and the third time - this time - I've lost her to Noah."
The range of emotions I felt whilst reading this were out of this world. I'm sure I have never read a book that could have me laughing one minute and swearing and crying the next as much as this did. I felt absolutely everything that was up for offer and more. Tarryn is one of the best authors out their IMO. She doesn't write fluff and easy stuff, she makes real, honest and heart breaking stuff. And it's my absolute favourite.
"Broken people give broken love. And we are all a little broken. You just have to forgive and sew up the wounds love delivers, and move on."
There were so many shocks and twists and turns throughout Thief, Tarryn didn't disappoint in that area in the slightest. But as well as all that there were answers.. SO many answers I didn't know how to process. All the time I found myself thinking "Dammit, if only these two had just TALKED then we wouldn't be in this mess" but then what kind of story would we have? Their story is such a bittersweet thing. I loved it so much but at the same time my heart just constantly aches and breaks for them.
"I'll do whatever I have to do to protect you. I'll lie, cheat, and steal to make you okay. I'll share your suffering, and I'll carry you when you're weighed down. I'll never leave you, not even when you ask me to. Do you believe me?"
Please. If you haven't read Thief yet, don't read this spoiler tag. Every body should read it for the first time with absolutely no idea of the ending and whether there is a HAE. I'm so glad I didn't spoil it for myself and just enjoyed every word of it.
*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER***** That ending. That damn ending. It broke my heart in two. I know there was a happy ending relationship wise but it was not in any way, shape or form and over the top one. Caleb and Olivia had worked SO hard to get to that point and had gone through so much. So to read that, even in their HAE, they were still going through pain and heart break it just broke me. I know though that any other ending wouldn't have done the series justice. It wouldn't have kept in with the style and it would have felt fake and forced. But my god did it make me cry. *****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****
"Maybe our souls touched underneath that tree. Maybe I decided to love her. Maybe love wasn't our choice. But when I looked at that woman, I saw myself differently."
So there we have it.. the end of one of the most incredible series I have ever read. Tarryn has outdone herself with Thief. I didn't expect half of what happened, to happen but now looking back I can see everything was right and necessary. I have no clue how to move on from this so.. I'm not gonna.. I'm off for a re-read!
♫ "I let you see the parts of me that weren't all that pretty. " ♫

Perfect perfect perfect!
5+ STARS!
Epic. That's the word that keeps drumming through my brain right now as I try to decide how to portray this story to you guys in a way that will sum up what I went through whilst reading it.
It was epic.
I'm so so sooo satisfied with this ending. It was just right. Everything. It was such a fantastic reflection of the entire series...
Things don't always go the way you want them to. Real life isn't perfect. It throws you curve balls when you don't expect it, but some things are worth the struggle.
"Why are you forever comparing me to animals, shoes and food?"
"Because, I see the world in different shades of Olivia. I'm comparing them to you - not the other way around."
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHETHER THIEF HAS A HEA OR NOT, STOP READING NOW!
This didn't have a fairytale ending. Not everything finished up with idealistic circumstances... but this is probably one of the romantic stories I have ever read. Just because it was unperfectly perfect. But it is their very own nonconformist happily-ever-after. I promise that you will not be left feeling disappointed or ungratified after all the work you put into this rollercoaster of a series. But your heart may feel a little sad as it really is a bitter-sweet ending. Tarryn Fisher will continue dropping bombs until the very last page of the book. It really isn't over until it's over. And it's worth every single second.
"Addiction," I say simply. "It can span an entire lifetime if untreated."
"What's the treatment?"
"I don't really care."
"Me neither," she says.'
I cried so hard at the end of the book. I read the epilogue at snails pace and about five times, because I just didn't want it to be over. That, for me, is the measure of an amazing book. There are lots of good books that I enjoy. But most often, I'm okay to move on to the next book, because I know there are so many great stories out there that I want to experience. But when I find great book, I don't care what other books there are in my future, I don't want to let these characters go. And that is how I felt with Love Me With Lies.
'She has the kind of love that can stain your soul, make you beg not to have one, just to escape the spell she's put you under. I've tried to break myself of her over and over, but it's pointless. I've got more of her in my veins than blood.'
There are so many little things that make you feel ingratiated into the lives of these characters. The private jokes you have with your college friends, those single words you say that make you both grin, when nobody else knows what you're talking about. The songs that evoke heart swelling memories with just a few bars of introduction. The secret codes, the comforts, the favourites, the firsts, the good, the bad, the things that make you cry, the things that make you smile. Caleb and Olivia share all of this with you.
"Peter Pan."
The beauty of this story is how the characters overcome the hardships. How life conspires against them. Timing is never right. Lies spiral out of control. Other people are determined to make things difficult. Argh, just everything... I've never been so frustrated.
This book was the best climax I could have possibly hoped for. It's Caleb's book. Caleb's POV. And ohmygod the man is sex on a stick! This book is hotter, more sensual, more emotive than either of the other two, in my opinion. I felt this book so deeply.
'It was as if someone reached down with a sewing needle and stitched my soul to hers.'
I love Caleb. SO much. I want to marry Caleb, have his babies and cook his dinners, every night, for the rest of my life. Throughout the story, he's always been a strong, macho male, but I really felt the alpha-ness of Caleb in this book. His determination and will was relentless and uber sexy!
"You know," I saw, leaning across the table and taking her hand. "I could have sex with a thousand women, and it wouldn't feel like it did that night in the orange grove."
I wish I were Olivia. I wish a man would feel such a strong connection to me that he would move mountains, not even to be with you, but just so you were happy and safe. I don't think I have ever believed in fictional love as much I as I believed in Caleb and Olivia, despite them being apart for the majority of this book.
'She might not be mine, but I'm hers.'
But, jeez, Caleb was an idiot at times. Well, they all were. Some of their decisions, some of their choices along the way. You just wanted to scream at them. But that's what makes it all so real. They aren't reading a novel, they don't have the benefit of hindsight or the overall view we have. They are just living their lives. They are ordinary human beings, making mortal errors, clouded by every emotion, the obligation to do the right thing vs. their own wants and desires. There is a such a raw sincerity about Tarryn's writing. And I think that's what sucked me in so deeply.
"Yeah, you got married, didn't you? But you only did it because you thought we were over - and we're not over. We'll never be over. If you think that little piece of metal on your finger can shield off your feelings for me you're wrong. I wore one for five years and there wasn't a day that went by where I wasn't wishing it were you."
I'm absolutely useless at re-reads. I virtually never re-read, even my favourites. And I have a very low tolerance for companion novels that are the same story from a different POV. These books are not like that at all. The different character POVs gives clarity and understanding and complete the story, rather than being a copy and paste of old material for the sake of extra book sales. Because there is so much left unresolved in the first two books, the alternate POV's add insight into the questions you wanted answered from the beginning.
As a whole series, I would give this 5+ stars! It is definitely a new favourite and it will be going onto my `need it in paperback' shelf! Simply the depth of emotion that this evoked whilst reading it, the extreme highs and lows, the desperation for things to come good, makes it a must read.
I know so many people are hesitant to start these books. I was. I was terrified. I'd read the comments and I didn't know whether I wanted to put myself through it. To those people... do it. Honestly, you won't regret it. I'll even hold your hand if you need me to. I'm so glad I waited until all three books were out, but now they are, you have to read this series. It's amazing.
This isn't second chance love. It isn't even third chance love. Hell, I lost count of how many lives we used up during this whole saga. But it's about trying, pushing, fighting, doing what you think it right, finding out it was wrong and trying all over again.
"I want your babies, and your anger, and your cold blue eyes..." I choke on my words and I am the one to look away. I being my gaze back to her face and realize that if I can't convince her now, I'm never going to be able to. "I want to go on anniversary dinners with you, I want to wrap Christmas presents with you. I want to fight with you about stupid things and then hold you down in my bed and make it up to you. I want to have more cake batter fights and camping trips. I want your future, Olivia. Please come back to me."
Tarryn Fisher is so clever. This was so original and just the way it was executed was so effective. The three books for each of the main characters. Putting Leah's book in the middle to mix it up. The lack of Olivia and Caleb that made you yearn for more of them together. The flicking between past and present in all three books. The cocktail of catalysts that lead to each disastrous consequence. It's just pure brilliance. It truly is a journey. I've never read a series like it.
"Olivia?"
"Yeah?"
"If I make this shot, will you go out with me?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I will."

Review by Smitten's Book Blog

Tarryn's dedication succinctly defines us..the Love Me With Lies nuts...
Having devoured, absorbed and adored TO and DR, I approached Thief with apprehension, but also great sadness. This was to be the conclusion of this wondrous story and I wasn't ready for it to end. I found myself reading really, really slowly, and actually putting it down to distract myself with something else, just so I could prolong its reading life!
Caleb's unconditional love for Olivia is more than apparent in this book.
"It's a curse. After tasting her, I've rarely found a woman who I actually think is interesting. I like her darkness, her ever present sarcasm, the way she makes me work for every smile - every kiss. I like how strong she is, how hard she fights for things. I love how weak I make her. I might be her only weakness. I earned that spot and I very much want to keep it. Olivia is the type of woman that men write songs about"
We learn from Caleb's POV his underlying thoughts and feelings about each and every scene we have visited before with Olivia and Leah *spit*. He gives us a better perspective and clarity, especially when it's revealed that miscommunication or a misunderstanding has resulted in them bouncing away from each other again...and again.
"Women hold all the power. They should use it like a whip, not offer it up like a sacrifice"
Tarryn's storytelling is unique to anything I have read before. She weaves intrigue, heartbreak, joy, and devastation in equal measures, whilst guiding us through their lives unfolding, past and present. Her prose just flows! As we near the end, she doesn't let up. There are still secrets to reveal..
This series has got to be one of my all time favourites, up there on the re-read shelf, which is fairly sparse! I have recommended this hauntingly beautiful story ad infinitum and will continue to.
Spectacular job Tarryn, thank you for sharing this story and I more than look forward with excitement at your future works.
"Life does not accommodate you, it shatters you. Love is mean, but it's good. It keeps us alive"

If you are hoping to read this novel without the other two, don't. You really need to read them in the correct order, preferably close together and to read all three. They are well written and the character construction is excellent, even into the third instalment the reader is still learning about the characters. The tool of telling the story from three different protagonists is an interesting (I was going to say unique, but that probably isn't correct) methodology and surprisingly rewarding. I enjoyed all three parts and would even read them again - in a year or so, as my heart needs time to recover!

"She's mine. She always has been, she always will be."
Well, now that I have that out of the way, where do I even start? I guess I should talk about how excited I was to read Thief. I finished reading Dirty Red on a Saturday morning and I immediately started wishing that Thief was already out. I attempted to start no less than four different books, I didn't even make it past 2% on any of them. My heart was still with Olivia and Caleb. Since Tarryn had announced that Thief would be published sometime within that week, I knew I didn't have that long to wait but I am not one for just sitting around. I needed something to read. So what did I do? I re-read The Opportunist. I had only completed it the day prior but hey, who cares? Then when I was half way through my re-read of Dirty Red, it happened. Tarryn hit the publish button.
Immediately my heart rate increased, my hands started to get a little shaky and I couldn't sit still. I felt like a junkie waiting on their next fix. Then it was there, I one-clicked it and a second later I had it on my Kindle. This was at 9:30pm on a Sunday night. Next thing I know it is 3:30am and I am reading the final page. I didn't even care that I had to be up in four hours to get ready for work.
"You are worth fighting for. I haven't given up yet."
However, with all of my excitement to read Thief, I also had a fair bit of anxiety and nervousness. I mean why wouldn't I? At the end of the Opportunist I was a broken woman. At the end of Dirty Red I was shocked to my core. And what about my favorite two people? Things were not very rosy between Olivia and Caleb. What was going to happen? What lies and betrayal were going to be unsurfaced next? How will Olivia and Caleb ever manage to have their happily ever after? Heck, will they even get a happily ever after?
"The sum of all the things we shouldn't have done in our lives is enough to kill us with the weight."
So now that the dust has settled, the series is completed and my anxiety levels are back down to normal... was the late night reading session, nervousness and stress worth it? ABSOLUTELY. Thief is amazing, and the perfect conclusion to what I can now call my favorite series of books. Every up, every down, every lie, every kiss, every look, every betrayal, every miscommunication, every twist and every turn was perfectly captured and brought to life by Tarryn Fisher's suburb talent.
"Maybe our souls touched underneath that tree. Maybe I decided to love her. Maybe love wasn't our choice. But when I looked at that woman, I saw myself differently."
One of the most unique aspects of the Love Me With Lies series is that each book is written in a different point of view. Olivia got her say in The Opportunist, Dirty Red was Leah, and now finally Caleb. What was going on in his head when he walked over to Olivia all those years ago under that willow tree, and later when he chose to walk away from her for what he thought would be forever. And the biggest question of all, what the heck was he thinking when he married that b*tch Leah? Well finally we get to find out. And man oh man are there some shocking moments revealed.
Everything comes together so perfectly. Each of the books have always been told with a forwarding present storyline, but also with the use of flashbacks. I can only imagine the type of flowchart that Tarryn must have had to use to ensure that each important moment is not only captured from the different points of views, but that everything on the time line flows smoothly and without effort. Never did I have to stop to think at what point I was at in the story, and I never felt confused or found the story to be muddled. It simply flowed perfectly.
"She has the kind of love that can stain your soul, make you beg not to have one, just to escape the spell she's put you under. I've tried to break myself of her over and over, but it's pointless. I've got more of her in my veins than blood"
Did I get emotional white reading Thief? Without a doubt. I am an emotional reader for sure, and I am not ashamed of that fact. But I think the love that I have for Caleb and Olivia meant that I was even more emotional while reading Thief. To give you an example, early in the story Caleb goes to take a Coke out of his fridge. He has the thought that he doesn't even drink Coke, but that Olivia does. And he always makes sure that he has some on hand in case she is at his house. Now this might not seem like an important statement, but this is during a time period that Caleb and Olivia have not seen each other for a long time. And I started crying. I thought about the love that he has for Olivia and how such a small act shows how even when they are not together, he is always thinking about her. So yes, I may be a sap but I want to get across how much you fall in love with these characters. That even a small moment such as this highlights the deep emotional bond they have.
"You couldn't get rid of the past. You couldn't ignore it, or bury it, or throw it over the balcony. You just had to learn to live beside it. It had to peacefully co exist with your present. If I could figure out how to do that, I could be okay."
There is continued heartache in Thief, but there is so much healing that takes place. I think that this shows the growth and maturity that Caleb and Olivia are finally experiencing. But, they have been so much, and the question that has to be asked is....
"How many times can a heart be broken before it is beyond mend?"
So do they get their happily ever after? Have they managed to find their way back to each other after everything that has happened between them? Look away now if you don't want to know...
I am happy to report that Caleb and Olivia do in fact get their own version of happily ever after. Why do I word it like that? Because the ending is not all rainbows and butterflies. It's a real life ending. Not everything works out perfectly, but they are together and they are happy. And to me this made the ending beyond perfect, because this was Caleb and Olivia's happily ever after. There is no other way I would have wanted it to end. Just thinking about it now brings a smile to my face.
My request for you is to go forth and read this series. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. I loved every single word of it and I have forever fallen in love with these characters. Tarryn Fisher has proved herself to be beyond talented, and I will be a lifelong fan of her work. This is one set of books that I can easily see myself reading over and over again.
"I'll do whatever I have to do to protect you. I'll lie, cheat, and steal to make you okay. I'll share your suffering, and I'll carry you when you're weighed down. I'll never leave you, not even when you ask me to. Do you believe me?"
