This book was one heck of a roller coaster! I laughed, giggled, cried, rejoiced and lastly couldn’t help laughing till my sides ache at Cat’s last comment in the book. Wish I’d say more but I hate spoiling the best parts of a book! Cat has made new friends throughout this book and claimed a new stray to bring home with her. She is still the same no nonsense, mouthy farm girl who still doesn’t filter what comes out of her mouth! She’s a stand up gal who hates anyone being lonely or even worse discriminated for being a freak, as she calls herself! Bones is gonna have his hands full and she isn’t going to give an inch. Bone’s Gransire is learning that he may be older than the Pyramids and was a Pharaoh but she doesn’t hesitate to filter! Best one liners is her growling at him to talk like he’s from this century. You’ll crack up and laugh so hard, you’ll cry! Enjoy! It’s a worthy series!

Cat and Bones still got it going. You would think after a while their relationship would get comfortable and things would level off. Not with these two. Maybe it's all the different things happening in their lives, or the really hot sex. Whatever it is, they manage to entertain while keeping me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this down and can't read their next adventure.

This book is superbly written, the worldbuilding is vividly realistic, and the characters, both the main ones and all the side ones are unique yet relatable.

Another 5 Star Installment to An Already Kick-ass Series

At long last, the much coveted 5th installment in the Night Huntress series by the amazingly talented Jeanine Frost is out and it is as good or maybe even way better than I envisioned it would turn out to be.

It is as usual Cat's uniqueness when it comes to being a half-vampire or being a full vampire which she had embraced quite recently that stirs up trouble of all sorts in the undead world. It is when vampires start turning up dead all over the country that Bones and Cat decide to investigate, knowing deep inside that something seriously wrong was brewing up in the world of the undead.

What comes to light is a plan concocted by an old enemy of the 29 year old Cat and her 200+ year old husband Bones, a ghoul leader known as Apollyon whose weapon is creating a sense of distrust and alarm amongst his race against Cat and her abilities to temporarily absorb the power of whichever vampire that she feeds from. Though this fact is not common knowledge, Cat's very public performances in slaying their enemies have definitely caught the eyes of the prominent members of the undead circle though Cat tries her damnedest to keep the fact that she is different from every other vampire even in full form.

Its kick ass action, witty dialogs that this series is famous for coupled with a lethal dosage of the scorching hot passion and sensuality that has always played a key role in all the Night Huntress novels that greets the reader even from page 1 itself. All our favorite characters who are so much a part of the Night Huntress world as Bones and Cat are come together to make this a delectable addition to an already kick-ass series.

What struck me the most about the 5th book is how much Cat has grown up and continues to grow through each book which makes her stronger and more lovable than ever. Willing to finally open up all of herself to Bones her husband who has her undying love and loyalty was one of the best parts about the story coupled with the sizzling hot usage of candle wax in making Bones lose control! I don't think I would be eying candle wax ever again without thinking of Bones losing his legendary control whenever it comes to his beloved wife and partner for life and forever. And talk about a blast from the past when Mencheres and Kira's characters made me want to re-read Eternal Kiss of Darkness all over again to feel the full force of Mencheres' tamped down power and sensuality.

Needless to say, I loved revisiting the Night Huntress world, what one reviewer has called feels like coming home, which exactly sums up how I felt as I delved into Cat and Bones' latest adventure. True to classical Jeaniene Frost style, the adventure in this one is non-stop, packed with lots of laugh-out-loud moments when Cat's wry sense of humor comes into play and let me not forget the intense connection between our territorial vampire Bones and his beloved which seems to just grow stronger with time. It is the way that he loves and cossets Cat without being a total wimpy pussy about it that makes Bones the most appealing vampire hero for me. All in all very highly recommended for all Night Huntress book fans. I know that you would need no further urging from anyone for you to run out and pick this one up! If you are new to Jeaniene Frost, pick up book 1 and let Cat and Bones take you on the wildest ride of your life whilst curled up in your bed. I promise you, it would all be very well worth it.

This was a great book even though I think I missed one before it. Great supernatural politics, social issues, and sparring before all out war!! New facets of Cat's abilities make this just as exciting and new feeling as the previous books. Glad there has been lots of material author Jeaniene Frost to pull from and mold into another sexy action thriller with yet again a perfect cliffhanger type ending. Love this amazing series! Rated R so can't share with my twelve year old but I do read aloud the fight scenes as he loves ghouls and vamps and soldier style combat.

Don, Cat's uncle, plays a pivotal role in the series arc and in Cat's own story. Vlad, Mencheres and others make an appearance too.
Cat is summoned by voodoo queen Marie bout a pending war between the vampires and the ghouls, instigated by ancient psychotic ghoul Appollyon. Cat spends a lot of time hunting him.and looking for a way to defeat him, all whilst.dealing with personal grief, fear about her powers and worry for her friends.
There's action, humour, pathos, fighting and a great hook at the end. Everything you want from a Night Huntress book.

Love this series, don't get me wrong, but have to say this is so far the weakest book. Its good, as are they all, but just not quite at the same standard. It also seemed shorter, though perhaps thats just me. Some interesting goings on in this book and some good character development in places, nothing too heavy but just the right amount to prove interesting. The book focuses on the ghouls stirring up trouble with vampires and though there is focus on that, theres also alot more going on that distracts from that point. It came as a bit of a surprise to find that i was 80% through the book before the ghoul angle once again took presidence.

Also, this ends on a nice little cliff hanger of sorts and one that made me both laugh and tear up a little. (Maybe im just emotional lately but this book had me close to blubbering).

Good book overall but the in terms of the series standard, its one of the worst. All the same worth a read and not to be missed

Jeaniene Frost continues to distract me from everything else I should be doing, although I have to admit that part 5 in the series was not as great for me as those before it.

There's still plenty of action and the writing is superb as always, but unlike the others, this book was a little dull in some places. There are some great scenes, don't get me wrong, but things don't seem to pick up until about halfway through. Whether this is simply because of the general plot of this book, or whether it is a reflection of the characters' developing maturity, I don't know - perhaps a bit of both - either way, it was slightly disappointing after eating books 1 to 4 like a ravenous book-beast.

I also found myself somewhat distracted by the new additions to the story, in particular, Kira, and Denise's new 'situation'. For anyone who read the side novels involving Spade and Denise, and Mencheres and Kira, this wouldn't be a problem. Maybe it's my own damn fault for rushing on with this series instead of branching out and getting the full overall story - I just didn't have enough of an interest in these side characters to read full novels based around them alone. It would have made more sense to read the Night Huntress books 1 to 4, then go to Night Huntress World First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness before reading this book as suggested on the author's site. Oops.

Overall, this won't stop me from continuing with the series, but I am hoping book six captures more of what drew me to this series in the first place, zoning back in on Cat and Bones.
