Editorial Reviews

Review

"This Strange Way of Dying mixes Mexican folklore with urban life and throws in a dash of pulp flavour." - The Vancouver Province

Silvia Moreno-Garcia's debut collection of short fiction, This Strange Way of Dying, combines Mexican folklore with multiple genres, including fantasy, sci-fi and magic realism. Though each story seems to be set in a different reality, common themes are woven throughout the collection, tying it into a cohesive whole that is engaging and fantastic. - Paper Droids

These expertly-written stories transcend genre and would be appealing to readers who do not like in-your-face horror but do like weird tales as well as to readers who like depth to their horror. - Hellnotes

There aren't enough short story collections that are bravely dark, and there are even fewer by women--especially women who use the richness and deathly beauty of Mexico as inspiration and backdrop for many of their tales. - Isak
