Stirring, emotional journey of 3 sisters who lived thru the Holocaust, based on a true story

By reading the Afterwards in this book you find out that these were real people (pictures included), with real situations, from happy times at home with Mumma and Grandfather Yitzchak to dangerous and treacherous times when Cibi, Magda and Livi are sent to the Nazi camps Auschwitz and Birkenau. This book should be required reading so that we never forget, nor allow it to happen again: how inhumane we can be to one another.
Told in Three parts: The Promise, The Gates of Hell and The Promised Land the three sisters tell of their life and times from teenagers to great-grandmothers. I can’t remember crying this much while reading one book. So poignant and haunting that I am confident I shall remember this book forever. Slovakian, Jewish sisters Magda and Livi recount to the author Heather Morris what they endured and the impact their experiences had on their lives. The Meller mantra: strength and hope, which is how the girls survived! The essence of the book: Cibi tells her sisters, “We are all survivors. We have all been beaten, starved and tortured, but look at us, we’re still moving, still alive.” Their survival was their justice and retribution toward the Nazis.
If you would like to read about true events during a tumultuous period of our history, read and enjoy this book. I was invited and I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through NetGalley. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

This is the true story of 3 sisters. The girls Cibi, Magda and Livi made a promise to their father that they will always protect one another and stay together before he died.
Can they keep that promise during WWII as Jews are being round up and taken to camps. The sisters are taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
This was a heart breaking, tragic story that was beautifully told.
An emotional read, with events in history that need to be told many times and remembered so this will never happen again.

This 3rd book takes readers on an unforgettable journey with three amazing sisters who survived the Camps in World War II and created full lives in the aftermath of what the world later came to know as a horrific and unimaginable darkness in history.

These three women are probably more than most of us could ever hope to be and I am so thankful Heather Morris told their story. Her research, detail and perfect story telling will snag you from the start.

Oh my word, one of the most compelling and enthralling books I have ever read. If you thought The Tattooist of Auschwitz was good, this, in my opinion, is even better! Who even knew that was possible?! The story itself doesn't need reviewed these remarkable women cannot be adequately described in one short paragraph but the writing? The feeling, the tenderness, hatred, sorrow and victory so beautifully composed. Heather Morris has outdone herself. Oh and one final note, read the snippets at the end. The story of how the book came about is as thrilling at the work itself!! Just wow.

What a wonderful story, yet again, retold with compassion, care and love by Heather. This is a story of family, love, determination and strength. Although the experiences of the girls were horrendous they never stop hoping or fighting. It never fails to shock me what all those millions of people went through in those camps and during that war, the despicable way human life was disregarded by other humans. These books honour those who have suffered, who were lost and their families. They keep their memories alive. A positive story and well worth a read.

Another great read from Heather Morris. I enjoyed this just as much as her previous two books and am looking forward to the next. I liked that this book followed the main characters (The Three Sisters) to the present day and not just thought their time in Auschwitz. I always enjoy reading the notes at the end and seeing how much research goes into these books. I’ve already bought the physical copy to add to my collection.

This is the third book in the series. It feels as though it holds more true to the original stories of the three sisters. In staying true to their story I feel it lacks in good story telling and what makes a good none fiction book. Cilkas story was much better written but I know there was much controversy from her family about accuracy, it feels as though Morris has compensated for this and had kept more true to the original story and in doing so has created a book that is less gripping to read. Still a good book though and you should definitely read it as the last book In the series. The other two are better though.
