This was one truly dark and scary book with steam later on…and a cliffhanger.

Whoa! I have no triggers but I was scared while reading this book so if you have had situations that made you afraid such as a very bad date, unacceptable advances or worse, better pass on this book. Riley is going on an unbelievable job interview. The circumstances are clandestine and chilling. Can she do what is asked of her? The technical part, no problem, but the rest is eerie. What happens in the dark alley in the abandoned neighborhood? Can she get herself out of this situation? This book will conclude in the next book and I can’t wait to find out what Cain meant in the conversation that Riley overhears.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and it is only recommended for people who truly enjoy dark “romance.” If you’re not one of those, don’t read it and give it a bad score. You’ve been warned.

This book reminded me a bit of Captive in the Dark by CJ Roberts, but it is very different. Just same vibe. It starts out with a kidnapping but it's really a character study between Cain and Riley. There is lots of manipulation...But who's manipulating who? There's lots of suspense and the chemistry between the two of them is insane. Riley finds out There is a huge reason she's been taken, and it's not what she thinks. But is the story true? The author gives nothing away...as a matter of fact she makes the dialogue and story so good that you really can't tell where it's going or why. I wish I could say more but it's too close to spoilers. All I know is I need book 2 now!

Now she is barely begetting by at the job she has after moving far away from where she had worked to avoid him. Now she’s doing a unconventional interview for a well paying job only it’s nit real what she doesn’t know is the person who offered the job is Cain. It took him months to find her and he has a specific need for her that she won’t be able to say no to

Troubled to the tenth degree, Ms. May has thrown down the gauntlet of sinister with a heady dose of emotional whiplash between captor and captee.

A captivating, scintillating story that has my head teeming with possibilities, not sure what to think of the characters, but what I do know for sure is that the next book cannot come soon enough!
Once again, the author's taken a walk on the dark side. And I am happy to follow along right behind her.

Cliffhanger

So I hesitated when buying this because it’s only 150 pages. However, 30 pages are cover, index and the other book she’s selling. But I thought it’d be a short read for the evening. I get to the end and it’s a cliffhanger! For what reason? The book is only about 120 pages. I don’t usually buy cliffhanger books. Will not get another book from this author. The story is ok. Interesting. It’s supposed to be dark but something doesn’t feel dark about it. Maybe it’s all the descriptions of white marble floors and lighting and all the explaining the Cain does. It feels toned down and the author isn’t able to get to the grit of the situation. Wouldn’t recommend.

Cain and Riley are another one of Linnea May's dark and mysterious power couples

Every once in a while, author Linnea May introduces her readers to a couple who will stick with them long after they have finished reading the book, in this case a two-part story, but as of this review, the sequel has not been released.

Cain and Riley are one such couple.

I am not sure who or what I expected Riley Prey to be when I learned of her existence in the previous book, The Puppetmaster, from her younger sister Alena Prey, but it was not this headstrong, smart app developer with a few submissive secrets of her own. And her initial reaction to Cain when she realized he was the mastermind behind her unusual kidnapping was… unexpected.

Aside from some disconcerting happenings that confuse her, Riley is torn about her deeply rooted feelings for this man once she realizes she may have been mistaken about him, especially when his hired thugs rough-house her and imprison her per Cain’s orders. Underlying any fear, however, was a smoldering promise for an exciting plot that eventually started unfolding in what appeared to be the makings of a partnership of sorts. And who is Cain? You just know there is going to be something about him that is going to knock the breath right out of us.

There’s something about the pairing of Cain and Riley that has really only been hinted at in Tied – a raw chemistry, perhaps, or a soul-level understanding or a shared sense of vulnerability… whatever it is, it extends beyond attraction or lust, and sex – but I fully expect whatever it is, it will explode in the follow-up. There is a depth to their shared connection that as yet remains buried. I am intrigued how it is going to play out.

Tied ends with a cliffhanger, but instead of being disgruntled, I am anxiously awaiting how author Linnea May is going to roll out the rest of the story… the story twist, the sultry sex, the underlying romance and love, and the satisfying HEA. You know it will be memorable!

Another great read from Linnea. This has all the great parts of a dark, intense and suspenseful read. This story is about Cain and Riley. They do have a past together end an abrupt end when Cain humiliated Riley. Cain then kidnaps her and sucks her into his world where he is focused on seeking his revenge. Riley is reluctantly drawn to him but is quite the feisty character and tries to navigate her way through the predicament she is in. The whole time I am hoping and praying that Cain will take a right turn but the story ends on a cliff hanger of all cliff hangers! Please hurry with the next book Linnea 🤪 I’m going crazy now. Lol
