The bus reminds him that although he is a tough little truck and very friendly, he is not built for the job; the bus is long and shiny and has lots of seats and windows. The determined Little Blue Truck will get Piggy to school on time, and he knows a shortcut through the woods. The first books I remember loving are "Harold and the Purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson and "Animal Fair" by Alice and Martin Provensen. I also loved "Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson and "What Do You Say, Dear?" by Sesyle Joslin and Maurice Sendak. Later on I loved "Homer Price and the Donut Machine", "Alice in Wonderland", "Grimm's Fairy Tales", and one about bread dough that keeps rising and rising, I wish I could remember the name of it.

I've lived in big towns and small towns, in mountains and valleys, beside the ocean and across the ocean, and now I live in Taos, New Mexico in a house with big windows that look out on mountains and sagebrush. My husband, our dog, Harry, and I take a lot of long walks in the desert.We spend the Summer in a tiny cabin on a tiny island in a big lake in northern Minnesota. We've named the island Good Dog Island in honor of all the good dogs we've known.

Child predator’s dream book

I ordered this on the spot when I first saw it, thinking it would be a great addition to our much-lived collection of Little Blue Truck books. I made the mistake of reading it with my kids before I’d done a preview read myself, and was horrified.

In this book, Piggy missed the bus and is crying at the bus stop. Blue comes by and offers him a ride to school. Piggy gets in, and Blue takes an unexpected route through the woods, reassuring a nervous Piggy that it’s a shortcut. And it is. They make it to school at the same time as the bus, happily normalizing the danger of getting into a vehicle without a parent’s (or any person’s) knowledge, and without giving any background as to whether it was a pre-approved part of a safety plan.

It is common knowledge that most crimes against children are perpetrated by people who are known to the child. This book encourages and normalizes behavior that could easily place a child in a very dangerous situation. I can’t believe it got past an editor. Certainly our family isn’t reading it again.

I will be returning this book. We always LOVE Little Blue Truck books and have the majority of the series. After reading this, I had to talk to my child about Stranger Danger and not getting into vehicles if you miss the bus, so you don’t end up in creepy woods. Did no one think about this when editing this book??

I have bought every single little blue truck book and actually pre-ordered this book for my son who is one. I am a second grade teacher and was kind of appalled by the storyline. It is not made clear that the little blue truck knows the little pig very well, and can be confusing to children that it would be OK to get in someone’s car when they’re late to school. I just would not personally read this to my son or my class because I would have to explain that you know you don’t get in anyone else’s car except for the school bus unless it’s mommy and daddy. Some people may think this is dramatic, but we need to let our kids not have mixed signals into what safe and what’s not safe as far as trusting strangers.

I’m really glad I ordered this book despite some of the negative reviews. My 19 month olds is obsessed with school buses at the moment so I figured at least the pictures would be fun but the story is good too. A lot of other reviews talk about it being creepy that Little Blue gives the pig a ride to school but if your child is familiar with LBT, it’s very clear he knows pig and the story is not nearly as problematic as some make it out to be.

This may take over as my new favorite little blue truck book!! It is incredibly cute.

Little Blue truck meets school bus and is a little jealous. But then he finds little piggy missed the bus so helps to get him to school on time and realizes he too can help his friends even if not just like school bus.

I do wish they made all blue truck books in board book style. This book will need to go away until my little guy is a little older!

So when I saw that the Little Blue Truck series was releasing a book about school, I pre-ordered it right away. I figured a book on the topic with one of his favorite characters would really help to build some excitement for him.

However, this book is purely about Little Blue wishing he was a school bus and driving a piglet to school. There’s nothing about being nervous or overcoming the anxiety associated with taking such a big developmental step. If, like me, you were hoping that this book would support your child’s transition to school, you may be disappointed. But if you’re interested in it purely because you enjoy the Little Blue Truck series, then totally go for it!
