So far so good on the quality of the DVD's. We bought several seasons as a result of enjoying the show on TV. This is a fun show, and the banter between the hosts is pretty witty and silly at times. I'm not saying it's identical to this, but if you like Mythbusters (and we do), it can sometimes resemble that show; however, it's still unique in multiple ways. Just a "heads-up" here, although a network's editors might bleep 'em out for television, there's an occasional word or two and joke or two from the guys (hosts) that don't seem to be bleeped-out in these DVD's, which is unfortunate. I know that movie lines in a DVD aren't edited (language); however, I wish they would be regarding shows meant for television. Anyway, if you can handle that, the show is still pretty entertaining and can even be somewhat educational regarding different cars.

Its bad but I can now live with it

I know this version of the famous British tv show gets alot of hate from fans and when it was on cable, I too hated it. Now however I can now quantify why I hated it. Firstly the UK Top Gear was and still is a one of a kind spectacular that just can't be recreated because the chemistry between Jeremy, Richard, and James is so volatile. The three genuinely hate each other and have openingly said they hate each other. This hatred is what makes the show so great. In Top Gear USA that same chemistry is just not there yet it try so hard to kindle that hatred that is comes off as petty and whining like teenagers fighting over Pokemon cards.

The other major problem with the series the americanization of it. Everything is bigger, more dramatic, and filled with explosions and jet fighters. Top Gear has never been about "go big or go home" it's about "three mid age men fallen over a bunch" as Clarkson puts it and americanizing that just feel awkward. The dramatic cut a ways when something is about to happen, the constant recaps of things that have happen in the show all of it just feel unnecessary.

All these faults means that when you finally get to a segments that talks about a car or series of cars like american muscle or a new supercar, the commentary about them feels "scripted" and generic. A lot of their points can be found in a pamphlet, they don't go in depth the cars features or performance claims, they don't battle the car with it's rivals and ultimately they don't express how these cars make them feel from the heart.

All that said it still worth watching and see for yourself what the big hate storm is about. The first episode was a laugh. The $1000 challenge episode 3 was fun. The bring GM back to life episode 5 was interesting.

ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS ABOUT CARS OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are like me and LOVE cars, you will love this show. I have been a fan of the British version but am even more hooked on the US. Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood, and Adam Ferrara make such a fantasic team. With such different personalites and backgrounds, it's hard for this show not to be great. I am a fan of the British Top Gear, so when I heard about this version I had to check it out and I was far from disapointed (have yet to miss an episode). I am also a HUGE fan of Tanner Foust, so that was another reason to check this out. I have recommended this show to so many friends, they are now just as hooked as I am. My favorite episode by far (still) is The Bind Drift.

Love the show. Warning: it is uncensored. Which is fine. My 11 yr old just laughs harder. He's heard all the words before so I didn't cringe too bad. But he's not used to watching shoes that have a lot of cussing in them. For some reason it cracked him up even more. But they do blur out the middle finger?!

The US version of Top Gear spent almost the entire time on silly challenges but it was lots of fun.

Quality bad for streaming version, only OK for downloaded version

So I thought I'd try out the Amazon per-episode experience with the new Top Gear USA. Regarding the content, it seems that TGUSA is steadily improving from episode to episode. I've seen the HD History Channel version, which is a very nice quality image, so that's my baseline.

The two Amazon "HD" versions I'm trying here are the live-streaming version (2.5mbps) and the downloaded version (6mbps). Since the downloaded version was (not surprisingly) taking a while to download, I started watching the streaming version and was VERY disappointed. It may technically be 720p, but I at first thought it was only a standard-definition stream, as the crisp sharpness of HD was lacking! Looking into things, I found that the streaming is only a 2.5mbps datarate, while the downloaded version runs at a datarate almost 2.5x that! We'll see how the downloaded version looks, but I'd certainly want my money back if the streaming version was it.

The downloaded version looks better, but it still doesn't seem up to the quality of broadcast HDTV or Bluray standards. If you're a big fan of this show, skip Amazon and watch it on History Channel.

A wonderful car show for those who love cars. One of the episodes was that the guys had to buy a real cheap car for $1000 and drive for 100 miles if I am not mistaken. I recommend to any car lover out there
