Sandra Brown is the author of sixty-eight New York Times bestsellers, including Mean Streak, Deadline, Low Pressure, and Smoke Screen. Brown began her writing career in 1981 and since then has published over seventy novels, most of which remain in print. Sandra and her husband, Michael Brown, live in Arlington, Texas.

Victor Slezak's films include The Siege, Just Cause, The Bridges of Madison County, and Beyond Rangoon. On television, he appeared in PBS's The Ponder Heart (director Martha Coolidge), and HBO's Path to War (director John Frankenheimer). This was my second time reading this book and I loved it more since I just finished book one in this series. I really wanted Dodge’s story. He’s always stayed in love with Caroline and when she asks help for Berry, he shows up. Loved staying on edge, when will he tell her he’s her Dad? Will he and Caroline get a second chance? Can he and Ski keep Berry safe? Loved the chemistry between Ski and Berry too. Loved getting multiple points of view and the twisted plot. Loved being surprised. Had some tears too, will Dodge finally realize he’s worth loving? I highly recommend this book.

Ok. I have read a number of Sandra Brown books and can honestly say this is by far her least promising. It wasn't the sex scenes and cheesy romance angels which are trademarks of her writing style and frankly not to my liking. It all boiled down to the twist, which I won't spoil for anyone, being just plain lazy writing. If Brown had laid the ground work it leading up to the climax it might have been more satisfying. Instead, she just dropped the twist in our laps at the end of the book and expected us to be grateful. It was like a bad tv movie ending, a complete let down.

“Tough Customer” is everything you’d want in an action book. It has mystery, murder, romance and a fast paced story. Berry is beautiful and smart but has made a very bad enemy who is bent on revenge. Enter a long lost father and what transpires leads them all on a journey of love, lust and mayhem. Didn’t want the story to end.

This book was an interesting challenge as I tried to stay calm while I really wanted to help the police catch the one doing all the shootings. The love story was interesting and I kept wondering how it would turn out. The ending was a surprise but at least everyone who was important was still alive. Very interesting mystery.

I agree with another reviewer who said this book could have been half the length that it is. The flashbacks have nothing to do with the present dilemma, except to pad pages. I found myself skimming this material because I could sense the irrelevance of it. (and it was) Sandra Brown really needs to decide whether she is going to write suspense or romance. It feels like she wants to have the relationship between the damsel and the sheriff to be the main story. Unfortunately, anytime she introduced that kind of material, I felt myself saying, "oh brother." As a result of the dilemma, the main character gets to reunite with her long missing father. Can they accept each other? Okay, I can accept this being part of the fall-out of the crisis they were thrown into, but the sexual tension between her and the deputy, felt like the gratuitous sex scene, without anything really leading up to it. And the ending was disappointing too. We think the bad guy has been caught, but then there are about 50 pages of trivia before we find out he hasn't. The plotting really needs to be tighter than this. French Silk by Sandra Brown, much better choice.

I really loved this book! The characters and theme really stayed with me after I finished the book. I actually listened to it on CD during my drive time to and from work. The narrator was excellent. I usually worry that a male speaking for female roles would not be able to convince me of the individuals in the plot. But this actor did an exceptional job. I am sometimes not a big fan when current plot goes back and forth to the past, but in this case, it was well written, and timing was perfect and did not confuse, but clarified well. I truly was taken by Dodge. Caroline summed it up completely toward the end of how Dodge viewed himself and life. His passion, commitment and loyalty as well as other characters in the story was convincing and touched me. I would recommend this book.
