Not Your Mother's T&C, It's More Talitha Getty than Preppy Handbook

I didn't quite know what to expect from T&C, but picked up a single copy and liked it, so I subscribed. In the two years since, it has gotten better with each issue. The tableau-type editorial pages where they pick a selection of clothes/products/jewelry/furnishings are luxe and exotic, internationally flavored and funky. If T&C in the past represented a staid older traditional approach, the T&C of today is (to me at least) more aimed at a Generation X demographic who is coming into their prime earning years, investing in art and relaxing travel, definitely focused on their home and living well from food to health to fashion. For GenX, the children of the hippie generation, the magazine is way way more cutting edge, down to earth, global, and sexy than past iterations. I love the homes and destinations profiled, from Morocco to Nashville. The vacations are off the beaten path, and super cool. Overall there is an aspirational tone aimed at living the good life, yet it is not snobby or class based. They manage to be informative without being snobby; quite a feat that they achieved this and I credit the editors and writers for that. Let elitism be based on aestheticism and the love of beauty in the 21st century, not an outmoded social register. The only thing I would suggest is for them to add even more historical and biographical profiles. Most elements of living daily life as an art form don't change dramatically, and there is much to be learned from the lifestyles of other eras, from the interesting exciting lives from the past. And of course, we all love a good scandal now and then!

I’ve have received only my first issue of Town and Country and I was surprised that I actually read every single article! That is pretty rare for me as there are usually a few articles in most magazines that don’t interest me at all or that are too long to bother reading. I had seen a previous copy of this magazine at a doctor’s office and had time only to glance through it, was interested, quickly realized that it was tailored for wealthy people, one of which I am currently not, but one can dream, hope, plan and pray, but forgot about it until a few months later when another publication I subscribed to was up for renewal. I then remembered Town and Country and subscribed to it and did not renew the other subscription.
ps: It’s been a few months now and I’m still not wealthy but if you are and are grateful for being so, I can sincerely say that I am very happy for you and may God continue to bless you!!

This is an o.k. mag. It is really nothing but fluff but perhaps a "real" story tossed in every now and then. You don't need to use a highlighter while reading this and while looking at the models and their clothes you can think, as I do, "Who the hell is going to pay $1200 for a freakin' belt?!?!?!?!?!?"

This is one of the few magazines that provides genuinely interesting, varied and useful information to people who enjoy a "financially comfortable" lifestyle.

They cover a wide range of topics, and are known for photos from recent charity events, debutante balls, and notable weddings.

From designer fashions to collecting art to their regular lists of best charities, best doctors, and best places to visit, this is a reliable magazine. It eschews fads and focuses on getting true value from everyday life.

This is not a magazine for everyone, but it's greatly appreciated by its regular readers. I've read almost every issue since I was 14 years old, and... well, that's a long time. If I could read only one magazine each month, this would probably be it.

If you are considering this magazine by the title alone, you probably know what you like and that lies somewhere between town and country. I happen to like reading articles on many different topics including decorating, gardening, and fashion - this magazine usually has something to offer in many different areas of my interests. Yes, there are TONS of ads for things way beyond my means but the ads keep the subscription costs low and are even sometimes places to find inspiration for creative projects. If you happen to catch the November special pricing of five dollars for a whole year you can't go wrong, even if you just thumb through to look at the pictures. Nothing to lose since publishers will refund the balance of unwanted subscriptions if you are not happy.

Hearst subscription through Amazon ships late!

I ordered a few magazine subscriptions in July and now it's mid-September , so far I've received everything from Conde Naste (except a damaged September issue of Vogue - Post Office damage - but they are kind enough to resend) - but I have received nothing from the two Hearst magazines I ordered: Town & Country or House Beautiful. When I called customer service they said the October issues would be shipped Oct. 21, so I'll receive them both close to November. What's the point? I'll most likely cancel the Hearst Magazines and buy them occasionally at the start of the month. I do love these magazines, but the seasons and timing of them is everything!

I'm a big news reader. I like to read it all, politics, science, pop culture. But why I love this magazine is it has articles unlike what you see in the daily news. It looks at jewels or art or home decor from a new perspective. I could never afford to live like the people in the magazine, but I love to read this! I will be getting this for years to come.
