If Rundell wants to preach, he should return to the ministry. If he wants to insure our well-being, he should return to selling insurance. But if he doesn't want to face another failed enterprise, he'll stop mixing his religious prattle in with his action western stories. The 2 go together like oil and vinegar.
I wasn't even able to finish this book.

Reuben Grundy had served as a sharpshooter for the Union forces and he and his brother had been in many battles. He was severely wounded as was his brother on his last battle. Unfortunately his brothers wounds were more severe and he died in Reubens arms after asking him to promise him to look after their folks and other brother. Reuben was discharged because of his wounds and the recuperation time and made his way home to Pigeon Point Michigan only to find his parents farm and barn burned to the ground. Three new graves with their names and his brother were in the family plot. When he went to his sisters farm it too was burned to the ground but there were no new graves. He located her and her husband in town and she told him what had happened. The Home Guard had killed their parents and burned the farm. He vowed to go after them and sought information from a former home guard person that gave him a direction to head. A well written action packed story. B. N. Rundell writes an excellent historically themed story. Great characters and the book flows well on his journey.

I have loved his previous works and read them all twice . This new series lacks the grandeur of the mountain series, while basically telling the same story twice about the Bushwackers. There doesn't seem to be as much emotional or spiritual depth either.

Well, I am surprised. I read a western semi romance story one day, now I have read everything C J Petit has written. Today I just finished a very good well written story about late/post civil war written by a minister.

I don't normally enjoy either genre, BUT SO FAR BOTH AUTHORS HAVE ME HOOKED.

Great characters all around, very well written, thoroughly enjoyable story, what more can I ask for. EXCEPT MORE! So I bought book two and will look for more books by this fine writer.
