I wish I could give it more.
I really love Amy Schumer's humor, and this movie seemed to promise much of what I love about her.
Unfortunately what you end up with is a mixed-up story where you're not quite sure who you're supposed to feel sympathetic for, who to root for, and whether Schumer's character is reforming and sympathetic or just reprehensible.
Good for a Friday night's rental, but ultimately unfulfilling.

Some funny moments but the glaring reality of how unhealthy she is so obvious

I had to stop watching in the middle of this movie because she is such a narcissist. She does not deserve to have anyone in her life until she stops thinking exclusively of herself. No moment of "revelation" the movie will unveil could convince me she is healthy enough to have an actual relationship. I think it was poorly done, too, to give her a love interest that had not been in a relationship for 6 years. That must be why he would put up with her selfish attitude. I don't think her actions can be excused by humor, like she is simply a "trainwreck" that needs a good partner to help her along. She needs counseling and to be alone until she figures out how to stop using people and making them responsible for her poor decisions.

Fractured Rom Com
Verified purchase
I gave this 3 stars because this had some interesting side stories and excellent acting by supporting cast, including Colin Quinn, and LeBron James. But... the main story stretches the believability envelope too far. The notion that "Aaron", an intelligent, well adjusted doctor, would fall head over heels in love with "Amy" (an emotionally stunted, ultra finicky, ultra high maintenance witchy witch) is beyond belief. Her character is so unlikable, it's hard to watch. A sane person would have dropped her after the first date. Yes, Amy is forced to grow & mature somewhat as a human being through the course of the film. But not enough.
Definitely not a feel good Romcom, and definitely not worth watching a second time.

Not bad but not really good either.

Ive never watched amy before but i love hader. Its an Apatow movie. To get some reference i still cant get enough of Knocked up and the first half of Bridesmaids was great, the second half being boring as hell. This movie is much like bridesmaids in that regards. It wasn't gross at all and i dont think there was any nudity. Not sure why it was unrated since there was nothing. The first half was pretty good. A few chuckles here and there. Then, like most movies nowadays, the cookie cutter pattern creeps in and it gets really boring really fast. Overall it was ok. It wasent bad but it wasent good either. Not worth anything but a box rental. Dissapointing since i heard so many good things about it.

This movie definitely is a trainwreck.

This movie definitely is a trainwreck. Did not like this movie at all - just couldn't get into it because there was nothing worthy of being excited about or watching. Not sure why everyone seemed to like this movie. There was no plot progression, no character development (or any characters that deserved anyone's attention for that matter), Amy Schumer wasn't at all funny (which I've liked her work in the past) and nothing seemed cohesive. We couldn't get through half this movie and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Really funny; really formulaic romantic comedy.

This is a great movie. But be aware that this IS a romantic comedy, so it's got the romantic comedy formula. I love Amy Schumer and Bill Hader; they are both really talented and I'll watch anything they're in. It has a lot of great comedians in it (Labron does a decent job, too). I hate rom-coms and fiercely un-romantic, so I found the movie very uneven; I loved the first half, the second half was jut every other rom-com ever. My husband felt the same, but less intensely (he is more romantic than I). I wouldn't watch it again because of that, but overall I enjoyed the movie. I gave it 4 stars because I think my hatred of rom-coms tainted my opinion. Just be aware that it doesn't break any rom-com rules; it's the basic, tried-and-true formula.

Well done Amy. A story about transformative love.

I think Amy has done a great job as the writer of this movie. Her style/topic of comedy is not my favorite (even outside the movie) but I do like this movie for it's authenticity. There are many people that use sex, alcohol, and drugs to avoid intimacy and accountability. Bravo to Amy for hitting this topic head on.

Plus, the cast! Dave Atell, Bill Hader as a romantic lead, Tilda Swinton, Lebron James, as others!

Cute, but still a romcom at its core.

It was a formulaic romcom, but Amy Schumer and Bill Hader always deliver their lines naturally and hilariously, and their body language and facial expressions are always great. I'm not a fan of romcoms at ALL, and this one was textbook. If anyone else was starring in this movie, I probably would have rated it much lower, but it was amusing and the actors were great. There were a lot of cameos from other celebrities that were nice additions, as well. Definitely nothing groundbreaking, but lighthearted and fun. It was nice to see the female protagonist playing the typical male role in these types of comedies, but that's about as far as they stray.
