A precise killer, he always moves under the cover of darkness, flawlessly triggering no alarms, leaving no physical evidence.
Cross and Sampson aren’t the only ones investigating.
Also in on this most intriguing case is the world’s bestselling true-crime author, who sees patterns everyone else misses.
The writer, Thomas Tull, calls the Family Man murders the perfect crime story. He believes the killer may never be caught.
Cross knows there is no perfect crime. And he’s going to hunt down the Family Man no matter what it takes.
Until the Family Man decides to flip the narrative and bring down Cross and his family.

I found it very entertaining that Patterson would make a famous author of mystery and crime novels a major suspect in the killings. Was the flamboyant author just a little too good at pointing out things to the police that they may have missed? Equally as fascinating was the description of Bree's undercover work as a socialite attending parties thrown by fashion industry executives.
I am so delighted by the inclusion of quality family time in these novels. Nana Mama is the consummate cook and dispenser of wisdom; Ali is the precocious younger son; Damon checks in from college; and after a record-setting day at the track, Jannie makes her college choice, which delights her parents.
It wouldn't be an Alex Cross book if a foe from the past didn't make an appearance, which happens just as both cases are resolved. I found the ending to be surprising and satisfying, despite what many readers will consider to be a major loose end, because it whets my appetite for the next Alex Cross book.

The food at home or occasional restaurant gives a list of ingredients or meal discriptions that do not move the story along. The athletics prowess and progress of his daughter is quite a filler not relevant to the overall story. All new characters get quite some detail for what might otherwise be a very brief appearance. Repetition of his relationship with John Sampson and daughter. Strip these out and it is a novella or even a short story.
Never quite worked out how he gets home late, has a morning run with Bree Stone and still starts work early. The story ties in well but the idea of a master criminal presence looking at what he does all the times is hard to hang onto.

I thought I knew who M was and obviously subconsciously Mr Patterson wanted you to know!
Would Cross cotton on? Another great story, plenty of twists to keep you occupied, you think you have solved it then bang another twist.
Looks like we will get another Alex Cross novel shortly, can't wait!
